View Full Version : Is there a good reason to run extra power to the MAF sensor?

I've got an 03 GU Patrol ZD30 DI and I've discovered a strange bit of wiring.

I'll get a photo when I get home today, but while removing the awful wiring job done by the previous owner I found that they seem to have wired a constant DC voltage into the MAF sensor from an aftermarket converter. Are they trying to keep it out of limp mode or something?

Let me know if we need any additional info other than a proper photo this arvo. Cheers Guys :).

I would only assume yes, but usually people just run a diode on one of the wires to achieve the same result.

Should I just replace the sensor? I'd rather it functioned as intended lol

If it’s running fine I’d leave it.

I believe it tricks the ECU into thinking the air is warmer as the EGR won't open above a specific temperature. It may increase the air-fuel ratio too, lower EGTs etc.
