3" or 2.5" exhaust

Hey guys, I've got a 92 Safari non turbo 4.2-liter lwb. It's petrol just purchased a 3" stainless steel Exhaust and went to book it in at a pit stop to fit it, getting told to go 2.5". Guys, any advice would be much appreciated.

I've read everywhere that 2.5 is the go for the TD42 NA, but ONLY ONCE, I saw I believe in YouTube someone testing both 2.5 and 3 and concluding that it didn't matter, with the advantage that if you go turbo someday, it's already 3 inches. Try searching YouTube for TD42 2.5 to 3 comparison or the sorts.
