RTA is killer in gladstone, what size lift is Safe?

Hey guys, ive just recently moved to gladstone queensland and was wondering what size lifts people are flying under the radar with in the region? I come from maryborough where 8 inch lifted trucks are childs play so i'm going to feel like a girl scout going home with a lil four inch spring lift and 33s. Also if anyone has access to the legal regs regarding spring lifts? Im an ex mechanic so dont be afraid to get all tecnical on me.

Well the new mod laws that are coming out Aust. wide are max 2" change to ride height all up incl tyres suspension and or body lift other than that a engineers cert will be required. Max 2" tyre size increase. Each state is still reviewing but it doesnt look good. 4wd custom mag a couple of months ago had an article on this. Best check with your local authority, seems that NT is the only reasonable place in OZ thats not following.
In saying that im keepin my 4"lift till i get told directly its a no no

And I'm keeping my 5" lift and 33" tyres until the government pays for it to be converted back!!!!

As said mate, regs currently vary from state to state, but the vehicle modifications guideline can be downloaded from the Dept of Transport website ... or PM me your email address and I'll shoot through a copy to you.

Go within the guidelines and no probs
Go outside the guidelines, and expect some fines and a trip to a machinery station

Isnt the tyre size 25 MM larger than a factory option ???

Even worse - 15mm increase on largest factory spec ... it's a joke (26mm reduction the other way)

yeah mate, i used to be a mechanic and no lift over two inches was ever really legal. I know all this but in a lot of places you dont get hasseld. I used to drive a turbo diesel pajero with 5+ inches of lift 33s and the exhaust dumped 2 foot from the turbo and it has never ever been pulled over. But in gladstone im afraid to leave my house with my 2 inch lifted patrol with 33s. And 2 inches just aint enough, i was locked up with tires having full contact with the guards and that was just driving accross the road to walk the dog. My brother is a mechanical engineer though so i am presently chasing him up as to what is required to get it engineered at the request of many i can assure you.

Its a state wide law,so relevant of where you live in the state, you get busted your busted
Its no different that a fully legal/modded car from another state coming across the border
A mod legal in another state aint legal here
Getting caught driving it on QLD roads will get you busted

If said brother isnt an acreddited mod plate person or cant get the mods mod plated it wont help either

Yeah mate, i know what is legal and what isnt. Its simply what i could get away with in the burra is a big step from what i can get away with in gladstone. I was just hopeing to see what some people were flying under the radar with in gladstone. And no he isnt accredited to do mod plates, he does however specialise in automotive and racing modification and knows the right people when it comes to getting it modded. I have already heard of a bloke through him who may have a legal solution and list of mods required to get a big lift legal. So we'll see how that goes.

yeah will do growler. And that is a legitimate question mr bobby dazzler, and the answer would be is because it is a nutcase dog and its just easier to drive past the houses with dogs ha ha. But it was also the first opportunity i had to take it off road to see how it went.
