What is a “Billy Goat Bashguard” ?
Dearly hoping it’s not a reversing whilst bogged steel sand/mud anchor [emoji120][emoji120]

This is the photo of it from their website.

But a wise man once said "big believer in stock designed positive/negative air pressure zones now.
Many a great sand driver folks hate these ‘Air Dams’ as they ‘rip off’ when reversing have read but do believe down here they are integral for our highway needs."

I fitted this to mine mostly for the air flow/air pressure while driving on the highway as mine didn't have the factory guard, like this, when I bought it [emoji6]

Wise highway advice Brother Ash [emoji23][emoji23]

Please do go easy on damaging tracks too, it has been documented that aftermarket steel dams dented/bent hinder steering capabilities deep off-road careful [emoji120][emoji120]

May I ask if your Beautiful TD42Ti is possibly overheating?
May have some hopefully helpful proven OEM tricks [emoji106][emoji106]

FWIW: We ALL forget to consider our GQ & GU A/C Condenser’s out front and out bush and or highway hauling.
TD42’s were poorly designed on the brink of Kettling out of the factory without Australian dirty/dusty fins.
Imagine slapping a piece of half blocking ‘Coreflute’ in front of our radiators [emoji22]
……Holistic TD cooling needs view, wash/degrease lightly your Condenser’s too [emoji120][emoji120]
FWIW2: Just done this last week on my Ex’s TD42T and dropped it back by 10C to where I had it prior singing safely [emoji736][emoji736]

FWIW3: Top tip, high volume, low pressure water is key to clearing fins without damage [emoji120][emoji120][emoji106][emoji106]
A standard garden hose reduced to a say 1/4” air line type fitting and say 20 minutes cleaning each side at least will drop 10C and no need to OEM replace unless the inner cores are knackered [emoji22]

It's been pretty stable temp wise.
The peak temps I saw on our recent trip to Fraser island, fully loaded with two Expedition 134 boxes on the roof rack, were 95° and EGTs at 525°. Backing off/changing gear saw these drop pretty quickly. [emoji106]
This was with the Billy Goat guard installed. I'm not sure if it has much effect, but I wanted to reinstate aftermarket pieces that aid cooling the same as factory items to avoid the potential of creating an engine that has overheating problems.
I made this other guard to channel air flow through the radiator and prevent sticks going up through that gap.

hi cremulator . that is the first time i've seen the standard plastic air dam . that steel plate from the bullbar to thechassis might be a problem , on the zd30 with the wide shallow radiator it is good but on the td42 with the narrow deep radiator it seems to be a hinderance to cooling air flow . on the other patrol site there is a thread called AERO THINGS & HEAT MANAGEMENT ( COOLING SYSTEM ) . it is full of interesting info on td42 cooling issues .
i just looked at that pic of the plastic air dam again . is that on a zd30 ? did td42s have the plastic air dam?

The plate from the bull bar to the chassis I made with the intention of replicating the factory plastic dam that was fitted to my aluminium bull bar.

Runs a high volume stream the width of our cores targeted and be careful not to over crank the garden hose and bend fins.

Every glovebox should have one, especially after the likes of Balfour Tk - Tassie [emoji23]

I think the trick to be gentle with the fins is to hit the water head on. If you hit is sideways or up/down direction, your're prone to bend'em.

Oh, and for when it has some fins already bent, there is a tool called radiator comb.
