1996 GQ, re engined to td42

Replaced clutch flexible hose section with Nissan oem (so it still has the extra top bleed). Was a complete b because of various issues mainly to do with stripped threads, connections done up too tight, and me being a complete amateur

Anyway, cannot get the system bled. I’m suspecting an air leak somewhere. I have re tightened the connections we touched.

Just always getting air out the top bleed. No pressure in clutch.

When we press the clutch I hear an air noise under the bonnet. Is this normal (it could be something to do with the master cyclindernhousing)

Also when you press the clutch I see air bubbles coming up in the reservoir. Is this normal?

Clutches are a bitch to bleed sometimes. Open up the nipple on the m/cyl and let it sit for a few hours. Any air will want to go up to the highest point. Then try to bleed the m/cyl alone first, then the next one, then the slave cylinder last.

Air noise is definitely not normal. Could be a borked vacuum booster?
An alternative to mudski's method is to get a decent syringe, vet style, about 250ml, and force the fluid back UP the lines from the slave cylinder end. This will push any crap out the lines into the m/cyl, So i usually will syphon that out, wipe it out.
Take it off and clean it if it's particularly gungy. Then top up to apropriate levels and test as per usual.

I bought a vacuum bleeder from repco years ago. It sucks the air and fluid through the system. You don't even have to push the pedal. Simple to use and works well.

Bought one of them myself Bill Mate only recently and sat back scratching my head in disgust when it kept pulling in air from somewhere. Gave up and went back to old fashioned ways with Rossco’s assistance pedalling in cab. Found a great Youtubey video later that night that showed how the air was being vacuum pulled through the nipples cracked open threads. The Dudes fix was to very carefully remove the bleed nipple and carefully apply silicone grease I think/hope it was to the middle threads only for a complete seal when vacuum pulling hard longer cracked nipple lines [emoji106][emoji106]
Can’t wait to try it again [emoji120][emoji106][emoji106]
