Well, had a misadventure with the beast on its first weekend out and it turned turtle on a track. The vehicle has been written off and just waiting to hear if the determination is repairable w/o or Stat write off.
Easiest thing is to do a direct like for like replacement of the body, but considering an upgrade to a GU platform.
I will be trying to transfer as much as is possible into the GQ, but limited with the GU.
The engine is not important in either donor vehicles as it will be coming out.
1) I want a straight. rust free vehicle. If a GU, a steel winch bar by preference. If a GQ, dont need anything.
2) I am happy with mods if they have been done correctly and will be able to pass engineering when the vehicle gets back up and running.
3)I would prefer a non smokers vehicle.
4) I want a manual gearbox in good functional condition if its a GU - I dont need a gearbox or running gear if I settle on a GQ. Must be a 3.0L gearbox as this will fit the clutch I am running
5) Colour not important.
6) If I am lucky and its not a stat write off, then I will just be looking for a body from a GQ. The only panel that isnt bent is the bonnet, so wont need one of those, which is good because the bonnet scoop was a custom and not in manufacture anymore.

Let me know what you know of please. Will consider transfer from SA/Vic/Lower NSW.

I won't be going into the details of the excursion, so please don't ask - still too raw. Nothing stupid or stupid driving took place either, just an accident.

Thanks

One thing is for sure I will be going lighter on the wiring with copper running at 16000/tonne!

After a number of conversations it really looks like the GU platform is a better fit. Engine bay is bigger, radiator goes back to copper cross flow and is a heap bigger than the GQ, looking for a 3ltr diesel manual with a blown motor not 2000/2001 as apparently these ran the larger dia diff which won't allow transplanting of the 3.9's with lockers, my suspension should be a direct transfer, approx 4K of Brunswick parts though but that includes radiator shroud, eng mount kit and jig and wiring loom. Will put it thru engineering again, with the will wood brakes and supercharger, hunting for a VASS engineer now

Nice one sure will be awesome. . Just sold mum and dads ZD although was still running well and got kinda reasonable price for it. . . Sure I can't convince dual cab build they look good in gunmetal grey. . [emoji6] [emoji6] [emoji6]. .

I saw one but was painted in that horrible textured paint and really spoils it that one above looks great though

Yeah defiantly not a fan of raptor sure its would be tough but looks crap and no turning back once it's on. .

Kinda wasn't a big fan of GQ dual cabs probably cos there are lots that aren't done well but if done right look awesome and would be pretty good platform for storage/ touring setup. . Definatly a balance between having too short a tray and ending up with bugger all storage or going too big and stressing chassis. . Chassis extension would be good for outback touring but PITA for Vic HC adventures. . Reckon that one above is bloody spot on [emoji106][emoji106]

What year GU's wagons had the big pumpkin diff? is it 2000/2001?

Might be worth ringing Mr Nissan Philstar for some ‘spare parts’ division clarity on the GU H260 rear diff variants. 99% sure all GU DX leafy hauling utes were H260 big pumpkins and only a few wagons had them too, possibly the 4.8L powerful petrols on GU years unsure of but very possibly wrong?

Ok mudski gave me the heads up the h233 riffs are 11 bolt and larger h260 are twelve bolt so easy enough to make identification

Utes and wagons, but the info to check is count the diff bolts as you don't know if the diff has been swapped over or maybe it's a standard. I just need a vehicle with the h233 diff so my centres will swap over

Me be a wee bit late now AEDT, confused but why if truly interested one couldn’t call Nissan to get real world available specs, Jerronimo Jnr on the counter may be confused but Barry outback at Lilydale could pull up some exploded drawings if you truly desire/try harder [emoji23][emoji106][emoji106]

I’m going out on a nuffy limb, H260 big pumpkins were designed for heavy utes and maybe powerful biggest 4.8L petrols?

The compliance plate on the fire wall will tell you what diff you have. No need to crawl under to view. The H260 is physically bigger but the compliance plate will have stamped H260 or HG233 for the smaller one you want PeeBee

Keep in mind too Phil, the GU's run and ECU. Not sure how you'd go with converting the loom so everything works as it should. Particularly the tacho and temp sensor. Your going to need the TD accelerator pedal too as the ZD and TB is electronic.

Thanks Mark, good to know. The loom is a $650 splice to run the dash, but Brunswick didnt mention the accelerator pedal assy.

Rang Brunswick, they tear the electronics out of the pedal assy of the GU and convert it to a mechanical set up like in the GQ.

If you have a welder, here’s how I converted a ZD pedal with the TPS for the auto to a manual TD42 cable.
I’ve since put the TPS on the pump but couldn’t be bothered removing the pedal to remove the ZD TPS.

still tossing up whether to go GQ or GU, claim has been verified for payment it seems but insurance company yet to make contact regards the final options - so waiting waiting...

OK, another lemon to resolve. I want to keep the PTO for the hydraulic winch. The fitting of the GQ box into the GU is a pain due to clearances with the dash - does anyone know if the 3L manual GU box have a PTO function?

OK, final assessment in, repairable write off so, went thru as a repairable write off, keep the rego, no notification to Vicroads, bought the beast back for 13K, truckloads of balance to rebuild it, happy days.

Yes GQ cab is the target. The GU option didn't work in the detail, added another 4K of parts, I cant easily keep the PTO function for the hydraulic winch drive, and I have all the spares for the GQ. Rang PAP but they dont have a body avail at this time, no big hurry as the existing shell has to be stripped and removed anyway, and I am going to go some mods under the car like upgrading the hydraulic pump for a faster rate, considering a hydraulic down the back instead of the Warn 15000 electric, increase the size of the hydraulic tank, basically make a unit to replace one of the under floor spares boxes, have a look at the MB special fluids container design sliders as my drivers side ARB unit is rooted, new rear wheel carrier as the pass side corner was the pivot point and isn't as it was, then considering the dual cab chop at the same time - and another rewire. Car gets delivers to MB place at the end of next week, shooting for thursday before good friday.

Going to need a new cargo barrier as well and have a think about getting the weight down and off the roof - might even ditch the roofrack.
