Every morning when I start my td42ti motor I get a bad knocking sound which becomes a very faint knocking sound when warm. Had a heap of stuff looked at and so far no success. Tappets, injectors, timing, crank, big end bearings, looked in the bell housing but all of these appear spot on. Any other ideas on what it could be.

Mine does it too. Done it since the new motor. Never really worried about it to be honest.

How many kms have you done and by new do you mean rebuilt? If so this has also been rebuilt

Yeah not sure what it is but I did hear it on another TD a while back and they weren't concerned about it. I'll worry about it if the engine breaks. :P

Far from a mechanic me Gents but could it be possible that our old TD42 donks may need some Pushrod cleaning internally?
Just thinking with symptoms described like blocked human arteries that oil may not make its way up to the rocker, or two maybe, until warmer and more viscous flowing possibly, honestly dunno?

What could be a possible test to that?

mmm will just throw in what I know ...
I do machine work for a local Injection shop . The set up specifications for the pump dont seam to be right . to much advance !
After my pump was done up its so much Quieter on start up . Huge difference . doesn't sound like a Bomb .
and it gets cold here ..

Have had the timing looked at and injectors checked, unfortunately both are good!

I'd get a second opinion on the timing... Most places will advance it too far to get peek performance when the engine is at running temp but can create a bad knock when cold. Is not good for your engine if that's what it is.

Yes I took mine to Jindabyne and I thought the next morning that I had wrecked the motor however when I got back down it quieten didn’t down, I have a 18g turbo and 12 mm boosted pump so it’s been advanced a lot.

Have you tried different oil?
I've experimented with many different oils and brands over the years and it amazes me how the engine sounds and "feels" under different lubes.

Any chance Mitch_11 Mate you could kindly post up an audio or Youtubey file when time permits?
Plenty of helpful people out there/hear/here that may be able to confirm the Top Injector Pump Potential issue learnt too [emoji106][emoji106]
