Ok guys and girls, my 1992 GQ EFI auto gearbox has givin up, well I believe 99% its the gearbox and nothing else.

I have the opportunity 2 purchase a 1995 GQ EFI Auto for 5G, it has it good and bad points,

The good.....its on gas....gearbox has recently been rebuilt....warn winch....

The Bad, Rust in rear windows, and surface rust in a few other places..... I really don't have 5g but if I sell my dirt bike and a few other things should come up with it.

So what 2 do purchase the 95 GQ for 5G or spend 2 - 3g on a new gearbox.....

I hate decisions and think its time for a drink! pouring my 12th now :)

Some Pics of the 95 GQ

I am so sorry to hear that Todd, I have also been in the same situation mate but I just had to bite the bullet and get it fixed immediately.
$5k is a lot of money but if you are mechanically mined (not like me) then I personally think buy the GQ and use it for parts, could save you a lot of money later down the track as you will have heaps of spare parts.

So is the potential new one pretty solid for everything else mechanically? If so, I think it's a no brainer mate ... no one bar you and the missus can decide on the financials, but the rust in the rear windows is common due to the frames usually, and if the other rust (noticed a bit on the roof gutter at the back, which I assume was what you are referencing) is fairly treatable, then I'd go for it ... how much wheeling have you done and or plan to do? If you need something reliable and this one appears to be so, then the other things can be dealt with - and if it's your daily jigger to get to and from work, then some dollars should be saved running on LPG also?

Good luck with it mate - not an easy decision I know.

Mechanically its been looked after, before kids done heapz of wheeling, plan 2 get back into it, and yes will be daily jigger 2 and from work even though i work 5 mins away and now get a lift 3 out of 5 days :) but some dollars still will be saved on gas 4 sure

Other things (not as important, but still matter), is the interior in good nick, is it better than yours, does it have less milage than yours, what was it used for, are all the electrics in order and if not, again, is it better than yours??? So many questions ... so few answers for you!!! lol

Best wishes either way you go mate!

I'm not a fan of white Andrew, was thinking of swapping the gearbox, winch, gas etc over 2 mine, just so I could keep my colour scheme :)

Todd,

I feel for you about the gearbox, I'm staring down the face of that right now, I need to do a rebuild on my gearbox it whines louder than my mother in law (I need to get some cheese to go with the whine).

If you can raise the funds it's a no brainer, buy the 95 and make a SuperTrol from the two, and if you can offload the bit's you don't need you will probably raise enough coin to go a long way to covering your costs.

Just my thoughts

Good luck with it all

PS: If you dont want the 95, PM Some Details, I've near convinced the cook to replace her Honda CRV with a real 4x4.

Milage higher but I would say better looked after mechanically, not sure what it was used for, its my Uncles think he has done a couple of outback trips, I doubt the electrics are in order, there are wires farken everywhere, door hinges need replacing... some other minor things, but I guess out of both his would be cheaper 2 sort out in the end

Todd,

Mines a manual, got my own mechanic who's going to do it for me, looks like it might cost me a huge discount on my BF LPG Fraud(Ford) that I was going to get rid of anyway.

I agree with getting a spare parts Rig Todd. Its more outlay but it will probably save you quite a few $$$ in the future mate.

Havn't had a chance yet Tim, but will do, would be worth doing anyway when the gearbox is out.
