I bought this car on Hype alone. I did not test drive one. I have never sat in one with a key or the engine running. The first time I heard it running or saw the dash light up was when I backed it off that truck.
Oh My Farking God!!!! This thing is a Beast of a car!!! This is going to be Epic

So bonnet up today...
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/09/62.jpg
The new DCS80 Lithuim Battery going in under the bonnet.
Disconnected the Shunt. This is factory fitted as part of the smart Alternator to turn down the charging voltage from 14v after start up to a tickle charge of as low as 12.2V. Theurhium does not like this at all. Removing the shunt let's the Alternator produce 14V all day.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/09/63.jpg
Heat shield off. Might replace this later with a better one of the battery temps get too high.

This gem will handle the output needed for winching which is one of the main reasons for going this way. Also the Y62 has a Front Axle weight problem and this strips a fair amount out of the engine bay.

Don't put flares on it. They just don't look good on any Y62. You are sitting pretty close to flush so wouldn't stress. Leave it be. When you put the lift in they will come under the car further anyway.

I did play with the exhaust on mine. And honestly the only time it sounded proper was when I did the full system.
I did a muffler delete with the long large muffler about mid car. This did make it louder but at a certain rpm sounded like somebody was slapping thongs together and shit. With the full system it had a proper deep v8 rumble and sounded awesome all the way through the rpm range. Fuel economy may have been better but was negated by the right boot going in deeper to hear the noise

Yeah I just went Cat back at the moment. Yeah the only real drama was getting some of the hooks out of the brand new rubber hangers alone. I swore at a couple and then hit them with my purse and they capitulated. I had to drop the spare out to get the last section on too. Looks pretty good. I'm hoping it will sound nice.

I just fully paid attention to this thread!
Congrats Darren & Co. ! They're an awesome bit of kit.
When you took me for a spin in your BorgWarner driven TeeDee, the giggling excitement on your face while both of us were pinned to the back of the seats was unreal!! But here you are breaking those barriers again mate. Well done!!!
I get to put a boot down on one here and there. I park next to 3 of them at work almost daily and 2 of those have spent more time at OnTrack then on the road. Every single bit of the car was modded there aint much of Y62 left.
I'll reconfirm what Nissannewby said. Both of these guys have added bits and pieces of the exhaust here and there and the sound wasn't right. Some made no difference at all unless you rev the guts out of it and then it sounded like a Victa mower vegging for life !!
The real hard-on sound was when full system was fitted and then it sounded like a proper 8 that hits you in the face...
3 generations of the mighty Patrol at your possession now mate. Awesome!!!

Hodge mate. I'm giggling every time I put the foot down. I have not had a V8 for over 30 years and they are a fair bit more car than the HZ Prem with the 308 with a 4 barrel. This thing is a Beast.

I didn't fit a towbar from factory because I intend to fit a rear bar and paying $1200 plus fitting for a factory towbar to then take it off in a couple of months made no sense to me at all.
I had the dealer install the brake controller roller but no towbar. I found a bloke on Facebook selling a towbar for $200 after he fitted a rear bar. Winner. Winner.

So the 295 tyre was not playing ball. No chance that was going up without some motivated force.
So inhave deflated the tyre to about 2psi and wrapped a ratchet strap around it then with Zach's help ans a couple of pry bars I have encouraged it up into place.

So I watched a video on Facebook about a month ago and it blew my mind. This became a bit of a No brainer once I saw the tech.
Once the car arrived I actually really liked the analog dash but the money was spent and oh well. So today it arrived ans the video promised it was a 15 minute install.....no Chance!!
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/09/135.jpg
Everything was in the box to calibrate the old dash to the new dash, no matter how old the dash is it will upload the history and odometer data. Pretty sik.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/09/136.jpg
Calibration took about 3 minutes.
Pulling the dash off was bloody traumatic and after bending a couple of trim removal tools and near on ripping my fingers off I watched 2 different vids that said Pop Pop, off it comes. No Farking Way...... 30 minutes it took to pop that sucker and it was Brutal!! I nearlly gave up. For sure there must be a screw or 3 in the way. MOFO.
But off she came, then just "unplug" everything. Nissan Plugs!!! All different and I could not see the actual plug I was trying to unplug. Shit got scarey!!

This is the kind of tech that the 300 will be coming with ans really does bring the Y62 into the 21st century.
I cant wait to use this.
I have shot a video and will upload tomorrow. I will also do a separate install thread for this jigger when I get a chance.

looking bloody good mate, you don't dick around, gee that dash looks awesome, didn't realize they did a S5 version now, i notice you get a digital speedo , is it still 8-9ks out like the factory one ,or have they corrected it in the software ?
Also with regard to your exhaust, you need to keep a eye on your transfer case 4x4 actuator, they are prone to cooking the glue that holds the magnets in place once you have removed exhaust heat shields, ive done some testing on this, and the normal driving operating temp (standard exhaust) sits the actuator at 50 Deg C, might be worth testing to see if you need shields or wrap etc ?

I was really surprised how far out the speedo is. It is at least 10% out which is significant, the greatest discrepancy I have seen in a car. One of the vids I watched suggested that it corrected this, i have not driven it yet, I will let you know when I do though.

Yeah I really like carbon fibre and have a heap of custom CF on my Triumph but it really is year 2000. The fake carbon looks like rubbish I reckon, hand laid carbon is sexy as. But yes I agree winnie it looks hideous in the 62. The wood grain is not as obnoxious as I was expecting and not too bad for my eye although come a bright day it might do my head in. I have seen one done with a brushed black alloy paint and clear coat! OMG it seriously looked amazing but would be some big coin. There are A Lot of panels to be pulled out so I understand the cost. It is a fair way down my list.

Mate! It was ridiculous! My Blue Trim removal tools which are thick plastic designed specifically for this task were turned white!!!! No shit!! I rang the supplier and asked if it was actually suited to the S5? There must be some hidden screws in the S5. No mate, what our vid. So I search YT until I find their vid. They did the swap while parked on the beach on a lunch break. Pop Pop, off it came!! No Way!
And both vids say unplug this, unplug that, but clearly edit out that time. And all of the plugs you are trying to sort out with the tips of your fingers shoved in the back of the cluster out of view!! Bloody Hell!!!
Naomi drew a line yesterday, she said I don't think you should be pulling the dash out, please don't, it's a brand new car, it was expensive, maybe you should get someone to do it. Lol. Nah it's OK dear, I got this!!!
Wait until the 5" snorkel arrives as the angle grinder comes out. Lol. I didn't dare show her the tow bar fit while the rear bumper was off! I don't think she was ready for that. Bhahahaha

it was the same in my d40 navara. i found out one weekend that flattening the battery while the car is in 4wd low makes the computer forget the car is in 4wd, essentially its forgetting the position of that actuator. not sure if its the case in the patrol, but fwiw, the only way to fix the problem is to unbolt that whole actuator, with it set in the 2wd position, then "turn on 4wd low" so the actuator moves to the correct position, the rebolt in and your back in business. hope that makes sense? lol

But Bloody Hell I'm living this position!!! I can't see it sitting in the drivers seat and there I no more looking through it off the bull bar. Stoked.

Yeah they are an interesting design actually. That top plate is actually mounted on an angle to allow use as a step, the sliders are mounted on an angle like normal sliders.
Yeah I plated my sliders on the GQ after smashing them with wayward sticks and branches.
These have a kicker at the front and the back and the cross braces are all angled which should help deflect hopefully. I will be taking notice though mate for sure.

Funny story.
Naomi went out to pick up daughter then wanted to go for a bigger drive as she really hasn't driven it more than around the block. Off we go and head down the freeway to Werribee. Even with the exhaust it's not bad on the freeway so pretty happy.
Naomi drove it to Werribee and then we swapped and I drove home. Now Naomi hasn't really driven it so was pretty laid back.
I got in the drivers seat and cruised through the Burbs. Amelia in the back seat with a DVD playing with headphones on.
I came up to a Red light out the back of Werribee, just as I came to the line the light went green so I floored it! Bhahahaha! From the back seat Amelia yells Dad! My headphone came off the back of my head! Bhahahaha. I think they both got a surprise. This thing is a Beast.

Thanks mate. Yes the front plate is on a flip up hinge. Not sure I like it but that's the way it is. Looks neat but I wonder what it will do on a deep river crossing. I cam see it flipping up and getting ripped off. I have it as tight as I can and it still functions.

C'Mon Darren, that princess machine isn't going to go swimming! How could you do that? I think the spring holding the plate down will be fine, coupled with the pivot shaft. Looks great i reckon, very tailored and sleek.

So had the 1000km service today. Turns out it's basically a safety check. No oil change. And Free.!!
First oil change is at 10,000kms
Then over the road to ARB to finally have the ARB Base Rack system fitted. I really like this system. We are a LONG Way from the old single piece steel rack. This thing is a well thought out adaptive ans flexible system. Stoked.

Nah similar concept but significantly different. The only thing that is similar is they are both a flat rack. There is a fee players in this market now. The ARB Base Rack system is the lightest weight (By A Lot!) And is also the closest fitting to the roof. Impressive bit of kit to be honest.
I was closed minded when I walked into ARB with a smirk thinking this will just be an over priced version of everything else on the market. Once I had a good look at it ans realised how versatile and flexible it was it became a no brainer. SOLD on First sight.

It's Big-O Deluxe Sliders day.
These have been in the shed for a month or so. Time to bolt them up.
The factory steps are bolted to the body and are for standing on, no good at all for protection. I was really keen to fit sliders for this build and considered making some but had a good look at the Big-Os and the mounting system is complex and laser cut. They are made from roll cage tube not pipe and have a "You bend em we replace them" Warranty.
They have a front and rear kicker which looks pretty swisho. Pretty happy with them.

The Front bar on it is all i will run mate. It is the Rhino Deluxe bar and is pretty good. No Hoops. I did consider the ARB Summit bar for a long time with Hoops but it is Heavy and the Y62 has a front axle weight limitation. I have seen a photo of a Rhino bar after a roo strike and the guy drove home. He needed some work done but he was not stranded and Insurance will sort out the rest. The axle weight is also the primary reason i went Lithium under the bonnet to give me some breathing space.

Cheers Phil,
The line of the mains slider is about where it should be to be honest. Just outside the body line. The front and rear "Kickers" are exactly that, to Kick the body off any rock to help the wheel get up and over or around. And looks sexy as!

Interesting! How does each of those selectable options behave?

I haven't really played with the 4wd Selectables yet but from what I understand they change the torque delivery. There is some better info in the manual that I have not really studied yet.

So this override switch is linked into the factory loom. It changes the function of the switch in the centre console area to select the diff lock. The switch at the rear is purely to switch between the factory Loom and the override loom. For the most part I will never need to turn it off again. If ever I do I can.
The difflock switch now functions on the same basic principle as an E Locker. On/Off.

There might even be The Kitchen Sink going in. That is rattling around in my head at the moment and I nearly have that solved.
I picked up a Bushman 85lt upright on FB Marketplace today with a full Shroud box which is a real winner and got it at about half price to buy it retail so a real win

I searched everywhere for a Kings mate. I 100% was buying the Kings and then cover the front in a contact. Kings have removed it from the market completely and all online links are broken. 8 went into a store ans they advised that they had a new one coming from a different supplier which told me they got done for breach of copywright or patent or something and had to back track.
I stumbled on this one for basically thrbsame price as Kings were selling theirs for and included the $500 shroud. This is a win. I saved about $1000.

Well been a bit quiet and got a bit done. The electrical fitout has gone on the back burner and won't be ready for Christmas damn it but I'll survive.
Did a Mountain of research of an Awning. 270 and 180 degree were considered.
I wanted a No Pole design and there are a few in the market now. I have been to a few shows specifically to look at awnings. There is a fair bit of money in it and h7ge price variants between the bottom and top of the market. Sifting through options and figuring out China versus the rest of the world. This is thr biggest leap.
So No Poles.
Heavy Duty trusses (This is Clearly the most important part) and boy is there some differences. This was actually the most important part of my decision.
HD Ripstop Canvas.
Quality Bag.
I found the clear winner about 12 months ago and spent the last year looking for anything that could compare.... and nothing came close. Seriously.
So I have bought a Bush Company 180Max Aweninh out of South Africa. And damn! It's nice. A bit of coin but I truly expect to get 20 years out of it. The pain of the purchase will be long forgotten. Lol.
