Ok ok. So I have done a thing.....

I can confirm i did not really know we had a Y62 section. Bhahahaha.

So I have joined a heap of Y62 groups on Facebook and checking builds out left eight and centre. So much so many options .

So this thread is not a Build thread. I will do a separate thread.

Here I will dump heap of research pics I have grabbed. I might start a couple of threads.

Welcome to the New World Order.

The Y62 Series 5...... #The62

I will.jump on Tappa and add some pics.

No 8 haven't although I have done A Lot of looking. Lol. I really don't like that factory rims at all. They Have to go! Yes I can run 35s legally...... and will. 295 seems to be the go too but that first image is 305 which I'd what I run on the GU. Side wall profile is different though and rims are 18s

Sent from my SM-G781B using Tapatalk

It comes with a Rear Locker from factory and I understand it acts a little like an Auto Locker once engaged. DASH Offroad do a little Loom plug that you plug in and it turns the Locker selection switch basically into an E Locker with certain On or Off.

They have a (rear diff) helical LSD , and a factory electric switch activated rear locker, once its locked, its locked, and will not act like a Auto locker nor allow slip off throttle like a Auto locker, it just locked.

The dash off road locker switch, is the KO Gear one, this box plugs directly into the factory locker loom behind the rear quarter panel trim.

As standard, activating the locker switch, it can take a while to actually engage the diff lock, the car has a good old think about it, sometimes needing to drive forward and turn the steering wheel etc, (pretty anoying at the entry to a steep hill climb) but with the KO Gear switch fitted, it bypasses all the "thinking" and just engages the locker straight away when you say so, also enabling the locker to be activated at any time in any other modes.

Kerry (KO Gear) also does a switch to disable the 4x4 system so you only have drive to the rear wheels , combined with the rear locker switch "on" in any mode.......well you see where that goes (lol)

The other thing to consider, is that the traction control works so well in the 62 as standard, that you rarely even need to use the locker, in fact ive spent the weekend at Janowen hills 4x4 park, another at LCMP, and countless other 4x4 trips, and never used the locker once.

MudRunnerTD did I read somewhere that you haven't driven one?

They are a pretty awesome car mate. I loved mine and would like to think I could get another one some day in the future.

In my opinion the only bar to fit is the rhino one. None of the others look anywhere near as nice. If you what a little more functionality then arb would be the next bet.

A full exhaust system is a must. Much nicer to drive. Not a huge gain but just frees the bug v8 up a bit.

You will be shocked at how good these are over a GU. Brakes are astonishing compared to the older model. Comfort is so much better. And offroad they go pretty good. The biggest struggle with them offroad is their size they are just fat and long. As 04OFF said I only used the locker in mine once the system works pretty bloody well.

G'day mate, yes have not driven one. Not sat in one running. I have really struggled with the front bar option and was adamant about the ARB Summit bar for Animal strike protection. But thr Rhino is Stunning and as of yesterday really swaying in that direction.

Can't wait.

It will blow your sox off mate. I get to park next to two of them fully decked out on 35s daily.
Makes my GU look like a little Jimny ...
And each time I drive one, it's a big grin side to side.
It's hard to describe the feeling sitting and driving such a large car and have such tremendous power at your disposal and make it move like a super car. Even on 35s.

If you don't already know yet Daz, but keep in mind Nissan have a recommended 85kg max extra load for the front axel, this means many of the all steel bars plus a winch, may actually put you over this, the Rhino ,Dash etc can stay under even with a winch, so can be a great option.

Hopefully Daz your GVM upgrade includes a front end weight increase too as 04OFF Mate kindly and certainly just educated me too to legalities of an OEM under thought of design for Aussie’s needs touring?
There is definitely nothing sexier than hearing a fresh Y62 highway blasting past us out here in the NT hauling huge vans @130kmph.
Thankfully they’re all parked up late afternoon enjoying sunsets as those truly/honestly magnificent steel bumper bars without twilight headlight or radiator protection would never make it through the first smallest “animal strikes” of your original valid concerns.

FWIW: In fairness I accidentally struck a Kamikaze Native Dove [emoji885] around midday today on the front diff pumpkin, fat little fella shook the whole old ute, feathers galore out back, bullbar proper protection hoops and all wouldn’t have stopped his football size taking out a precision dive bomb headlight easily [emoji51]
