Hey guys,
So I've just bought myself a 92 Ford Maverick. Last night the alarm started going off on it randomly. I unlocked the car with the electronic key card and then locked it again by turning the lock in the doors, turning the alarm off. Today I went to start it and it wouldn't start. I checked the voltage and it had 4V on my main battery and 12V on my second. I tried jump starting it off my second but I got nothing. Then I tried jump starting it off my dads Navara, which had all the dash lights come and and the accessories, but as soon as I try to turn over the key, it just dies again. I was just wondering if this is a problem with the battery or something else? I'm not too familiarly with frobys but I wouldve though that the main battery could have been jump started.
Cheers.

Sounds like a problem with your alarm to be honest. It will likely have an Immobiliser on it and it aint happy. Yes you should be able to jump it. its a big donk though. Swap your batteries over from one side to the other if you hve a good second battery as 4v is not great and could be cooked. what type of battery is it? What engine have you got in the GQ?

I might try switch them over tomorrow in the daylight. I have also turned off the immobilizer since. Would it not still start as my second battery is now the one with the 4V and is faulty? Its got the TD42 turbo.

Yeah 4V on the battery, its munted. I would totally disconnect the alarm and go from there with a new battery.

As above 4V between terminals, the batterys filed for retirement ... No chance of cranking the TD donk and keeping the plugs warm.

Got a new battery today. Replaced the main (the one which was dead) and still will not get anything. Even when I turn it to accessory’s still get nothing. Could it maybe be the terminals now or a fuse? Cheers

Does it click? Turn over and not fire? Factory TD42 or converted?

Yeah, I can hear it click when I turn the key all the way. Just no electronics or fire. When we tried jump starting it, on the last go there was a bit of smoke. I'll have a look at the fuses and terminals this weekend. Its a factory td42.

What size jumper leads are you using? If you here a click, theres power, just not enough. Switch the batteries over and jump start to that better battery. Make sure the leads are big enough. There will be a few amps needed to jump the TD.

I've got a new battery now. So, when I put that one in (replacing the dodgy one) I get nothing now. I think I may have blown a fuse or fried the terminals

Early TD42’s Patrol/Mav should hopefully be a simple connection issue Mont97 Mate[emoji1696]9/10 times earth issues for their grubby age.
If a long handled screwdriver carefully connect testing the starter motor/solenoid +\- is a weary task, safely best to book the old faithful beast into an auto electrician for some terminal TLC ASAP [emoji120][emoji106][emoji106]
