What do you recommend.
I'm getting raslarr sliders and scrub bars, but I'm not convinced on their bars. The black bar is the old style and the tan colour is their new style. They look the same to me.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/04/319.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/04/320.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/04/321.jpg

G’day John Mate!
1st & 2nd photo don’t appear to be working on my icrapple?
Tube bars IMHO (front & or rear) although extremely functional and cost less generally I believe they might attract extra unneeded attention from Mr Plod down here in the Mexican Alps outskirts [emoji51]
Not sure what reasonably priced plate/folded functional bars are available for GU’s these days though?

Get your old bar sandblasted and powdercoated. Did this with my ARB bar, also got new rubber over riders and stickers from ARB. Its looking brand new.

Gday JC. Same as MB couldn't really see anything in your pics but I checked the website. I would be asking what wall thickness they're using on their sliders. Anything less than 4mm I'd be expecting budget pricing and not expecting stiffness. Do not go for open sliders. You will get sill damage from strong sticks or branches that get caught up in them and rotate around to gouge your sills out. Seen it happen. Scrub bars I suppose could be less structural depending on panel clearance and if you're not leaning against buffalo in the NT! :D

Take 2 on the photos
mudski might have an opportunity to get a new bar.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/04/322.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/04/323.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/04/324.jpg

Yeah fair call. Tube bars in my eyes change the look dramatically and can make a Patrol "cop bait" as MB said. If your set on a tube bar, have a look at the Milweld range. MB has one of their bars, I have one of their rear bars and build quality is awesome. Can't fault it.

Unfortunately my older GU Millweld tube hybrid front bar I don’t believe is manufactured anymore 🥲
Maybe like Mr Mudski kindly mentioned, pimp up your old ARB type bar John?
EDIT: Unsure of your Airbaggy compliance vehicle age if chopping up existing bar edges for attack angles Johnstar ?

Sliders are made out of 50mm od with 3.2 mm wall and I'm getting these top plates, but not green..http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/04/325.jpg

FWIW: 40NB - 3.25mm wall thickness on sliders specifically is my believed happy medium weight minimum as long as the trailing end (B Pillar) backwards has adequate design support.
The vast majority of impact witness marks I find on proper rock working forward trucks is the second half of their outer slider rails[emoji106][emoji106]

Was typing same time John Mate!
I assume they’ll be 40NB (48.3mm OD / 3.25mm ) which is fine [emoji106][emoji106]

Hold the Fort, are they requiring welding plates to the chassis John Mate?

Due Diligence required here Johnstar [emoji120]
Competition bred sliders are traditionally designed with a chassis welded tapped plate that accepts the sliders matching bolt plate for ease of throw away after the race/challenge.
On our daily vehicles this chassis welding requires full engineering certificates [emoji51]
Here’s hoping you’ve been advised by the seller and or it’s a new lateral/sideways U bolt type design [emoji1696][emoji120]

Can't go wrong with Millweld.

I personally can't recommend Raslarr after the experience I had with them 6 or 7 years ago, maybe they have changed but I had a few issues with the workmanship and they were not interested in making it right.

40NB (40mm nominal bore) with a 3.25mm wall will be 46.5mm OD . Nominal Bore tube will normal have a schedule rating and this is what determines the wall thickness.

So if you want a 50ish mm OD you will need to use 40nb with a 5.2mm wall thickness.

Also check if their bars are adr approved. Airbag compliant etc etc. These details are what insurers will be looking at if you were to run into someone or something. No compliance no insurance.

The only way to get this compliance is to have the bar tested for impact and destruction.

The 40Nb pipe we purchase is always 48.3mm OD with varying wall thicknesses, is this just a galvanised thingy, black maybe different?

No you are right I was confused. It gets a little hazy sometimes. I deal with tube and pipe at work and they are measured differently. I was right about the schedule rating though.

So yes your 40NB has an 0D of 48.3mm and a wall thickness at 3.2mm makes it schedule 30. Now if you go to the right place you can get other schedules as well.
So Schedule 80 is 5.08mm wall thickness. Schedule 160 is 7.14mm wall thickness.

For what it's worth we made a set of sliders for a new dmax at work and used 40DN (or NB) schedule 80 (5.08mm wall).

Sorry about the above confusion...

Got an email back from Millweld.

Interesting enough the Millweld bars are not airbag compatible, but the raslarr are both ADR compliant and air bag compatible.

Does your Patrol have an airbag? didn't think it did... Being non ADR is strange, also having been to both workshops, Milwelds place is well set out, large and clean, Rasslar's was the total opposite...

Our bars are not airbag compatible.

They didn't say anything about ADR.

Raslarr got it on their website.

Yeah thats a pain. Having been to both sites and met both, I know which one I would chose. One thing Mil is lacking here, this one bit of compliance. He would kill it...
