Hey guys had my pride and joy (TD42T) a few months now and unfortunately it's been one problem after the other. The past few days I've picked up on a new sound coming from the bay but I can't for the life of me pinpoint it. It quietens with the aircon on. It's hard to hear when the hood open but you can hear it with it shut so I've included a video for reference. I've just noticed today that it also has like a little rattle (very similar sounding) when I let off the accelerator or engage the clutch while on boost. I've included a video you can just hear this as well. I'm hoping it may be clutch related because i've already had issues with it because of the mud but also not convinced. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks guys.

Shitty iphoney speakers here mate but quickly sounds just like a simple idler bearing to me?
Grab a say 1.0m safe length of garden hose and shove one end in your ear and the other end can carefully search around the region for highest decibels found to pinpoint a betterer piccie [emoji106][emoji106]

Second video sounded normal to me but the first I could hear a rattle/ jingle. If the sound changes when you depress the clutch it will be clutch related in my opinion.

You've gotta have the sound right up to hear the little jingle/rattle. It's more from letting off boost I think because it doesn't do it if I depress the clutch rolling.

How’d you go Jdugg Mate with the old noise pinpointing, any luck?
Tried listening to it again just now on the dusty icrapple phone and swear it sounds like an open air bearing jingle/rattle and hopefully not something sinister within [emoji1696]

Hey mate I had a work colleague who has a better idea than me have a look today and he recons it's one of the bearings the belt sits on (AC compressor i think). I'm going to cover the belt and spray some white lithium grease in to the bearing he showed me in the morning to see if that quietens it up until I can get it replaced into the new year. Would that make sense as too why you can also hear it when it comes off boost because that's the most worrying part to me. It does that rattle/jingle everytime I change gears gaining speed and even with the windows up i can still bloody hear it.

Could make sense mate, a bearing out there could be righting itself temporarily at faster revolutions but then wiggly jiggling at slower speeds. The forces on say your idler bearing aren’t pulling exactly true when the guts of a bearing out there start to wear, slight cartwheeling could be starting before it completely poops itself. You could take the belts off firstly and have a good wiggle and spin of them all first to hopefully isolate the noise location further [emoji1696]

I had this exact sound in my Patrol maybe five, six years ago. I can't remember what the cause was. I do remember changing out the a/c idler bearing on the pump though. Could be this.
Take the belt off the a/c pump and see if the noise is still there. Atleast you can rule out the a/c if the noise still remains.

Well i put some lithium grease in this morning and that quietened it on idle. It stills makes the jingle rattle on boost/deceleration though. Got home before and the noise is back on idle. I think I'm going to just play louder music for the next two weeks until it can get booked in with my new mechanic who seems to actually give a shit haha.

Did that include the high pitch jingle/rattle when you let off boost/decelerate? You can hear it when slowing down in say 4th or 5th doing 100+ too
