Hi,

ECU in my 1992 Patrol TB42E with 4 gear automatic transmission is not working properly.

The current ECU is 23710-34J10 MECM-P740 AG.

I found a used one 23710-34J05 MECM-P710 AE.

I heard that J10 may mean automatic transmission?
and what about J05?

P740 and P710, I suppose that it may describe the software version in ECU ?

After reading different posts, I'm still not sure if there is any difference between ECU for manual and automatic as there is a separate TCU for auto transmission.

What do you think?

Do you think that these ECUs are interchangeable?

Best regards,
Marcin

Wouldn't you be better of replacing the TCU first or do you suspect it a faulty ECU

I would replace the TCU but it is nearly impossible to find any TCU in my country and even Europe. TB42E with automatic transmission is a very rare car here.

However, the ECU seems to be broken as there is lack of power, some misfires etc... the sensors in the engine were checked and it looks as the problem is caused by ECU.

I found only one used ECU in UK so I'm thinking about replacing it...

Fair enough my 1992 Patrol TB42E has the same ECU part number as yours 23710-34J10.... the mecm numbers after on my one is also different so assume it could just be a unique serial number by the manufacture

I would dare say the ECU you have found is for a manual and wouldn't work in an auto, I'll see if I can find more info on it.
