As an early xmas present one of my kids invited me to an Extreme 4X4 Farm Drive. Didn't even know this place existed, and having done a few drives with the local 4WD club I didn't have high expectations.
So last Sunday we headed off early to a property near Newstead, I was driving one car, granddaughter the next and their neighbour the other one. You can take one passenger each. First pleasant surprise was they were all Patrols, Romper, Stomper and Thumper. Dale (the owner) was very professional in his safety briefing and what to expect.
You get a map of the course, which includes just about everything you would be likely to encounter. Hills, undualtions, bogholes, fallen trees, switchbacks, steps and Devils Gate. I'd compare Devils Gate to Gunshot, a near vertical 8 metre drop. It's got a chicken track but happy to say that wasn't used by our group. It was still fairly wet in places so that added to the excitement and if you like mud it would be even better in mid winter. Best bit, you don't have to wash the cars!
Dale is there with a tractor (if needed) and gave expert guidance on the tougher sections and Devils Gate.
I'd highly recommend it for anyone who wants some fun, is new to 4WD'ing or wanting to see what the Patrols are actually capable off. I wouldn't try the track in my own car. It was a really fun morning and we're all going back for another crack at it, this time probably at night for the added degree of difficulty.
