When it comes to the interior styling I guess you’re either into the all-out street look, the exotic leather option or just leaving it alone and enjoy the factory clean lines. Then there are the striped out bare minimum guys that run barely anything, but they’re a special bunch. Ha-ha I kid.
As most of you guys know, building the ultimate dream car doesn’t stop after the body kit and car mechanicals. It goes further than skin deep, and a lot of us spend (in my opinion) more hours inside our cars then we do anywhere else. I have personally slept in my car on a couple of occasions but that’s another story for a different time slot.
There are many products on the market for cleaning and maintaining your interior. Being a true enthusiast, Mothers® (http://www.autoobsession.com.au/shop/online-store/mothers.html) don’t only help you wash and protect the outside of your car but also everything inside as well. The range includes a leather cleaner, leather conditioner, upholstery cleaner, plastic polish, and vinyl/rubber plastic Protectant.
The break down

After a long day of working on the car my hands get really dirty. Water and soap just doesn’t cut it so normally I use a sand soap to get off the dirt, grease and oil when washing. Leather in its natural state is cow skin. Now I’m not saying go and grab your sand soap and go at it on your leather seats. That’s just going to end badly. What you need is leather cleaner. Mothers® Leather Cleaner (http://www.autoobsession.com.au/shop/online-store/mothers/mothers-leather-cleaner.html)is a pH-balanced formula that safely lifts embedded dirt, grime and stains from your leather interior, while preparing it for Mothers® Leather Conditioner, which will ensure a long, supple life.

After washing with sand soap my hands get really dry after a couple of washes, and I normally go and steal my GF’s hand cream. No one wants to hold a dry hand and it’s the same with your leather seats. Once the leather is all clean it needs to be kept moisturized or it will dry up and crack. Mothers® Leather Conditioner (http://www.autoobsession.com.au/shop/online-store/mothers/mothers-leather-conditioner.html)will help preserve your leather. The Leather Conditioner is formulated with lanolin and neat's foot oil to preserve the natural oils lost with age. It leaves a protective barrier that helps seal out the detrimental effects of the sun, time and daily abuse.

If you’re poor like me, and have to make do with fabric seats, or have dirty carpets that need cleaning because your dog thinks that every time you open the driver’s door its playtime leaving a mess everywhere. Then Mothers® Carpet and Upholstery cleaner (http://www.autoobsession.com.au/shop/online-store/mothers/mothers-quick-interior-kit-for-upholstery.html)is what you need. It’s a simple spray on, scrub and wipe clean approach, improving the colour of your interior.
AE86 owners (I’ve been a victim of this) or even just car lovers of older 80’s cars (again me) all know the pain of finding a crack on your crack free dash. It’s heart breaking stuff. An AE86 crack free dash isn’t cheap with the Takumi tax putting it at $400-$500 a pop and that’s not even including delivery from Japan. And that’s if you’re lucky enough to find one, so presevering and maintaining one that you have should be very high on the agenda. Mothers® Protectant (http://www.autoobsession.com.au/shop/online-store/mothers/mothers-quick-interior-kit-for-upholstery.html) is a penetrating UV blocker, effective on rubber, vinyl, plastic and fiberglass. Designed to recondition and maintain the original condition and appearance of dashboards, bumpers, trim, tyres and more.
We spend almost just as much if not more on our car’s interior. $1000 per bucket seat, $100 on a gear knob, $500 on steering wheel, $1000 on gauges and that’s only for the street tuned cars. For the guys who are lucky enough to be able to purchase a brand new car, you all know about the endless extras that the dealers try and sell you. Then there are the dreams I’ve had about owning cars that are worth more than anything that I will ever buy or could afford in my entire life and in these dreams I have been presented with endless leather and suede swatches to choose from, so that my leather bucket seats will match the roof lining and carpet. Apparently this actually happens in real life.
Whatever interior you have, we’ve all invested in this tiny space of 4 seat wide, making it ours and making it as comfy, user friendly and as good looking (can’t forget about the looks) as possible. And if you’re anything like me with little to no money even just maintaining the dash (so it doesn’t crack) is a win. Next time you’re sitting inside your car take a moment and think about this for 2 seconds, the average Joe will only wash the outside of his car and won’t be bothered with the interior and call it a day. But how many car enthusiasts, collectors, and older granny spec-1 owner cars do you see with a bad interior?
