Don't think there was a topic, so there's one now.
Time to give this welder a bit of a run.
Cut up a heap of steel at work this morning. First project was a gill for the spit.
Next is a bench to replace the rotten timber one that knocked down. Pics to come.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/09/48.jpg

If its for cooking why not season it rather than paint it JC? Innocent question, I don't know if painting is bad or not for that.

If its for cooking why not season it rather than paint it JC? Innocent question, I don't know if painting is bad or not for that.Don't know if I can. Material is smooth flat (don't know the correct term) don't think it's porous. Idea is to throw some heat beads in and a gill on top. Paint is only to pretty up the outside.

Bloody lovely! . . Been busy making the most of lockdown in the garden this year and finally getting all the drainage sorted in the drive as our place always ends up with a lake after a good downpour. . Amazing how much fill comes out of the trenches so knocked over a couple of other jobs too. . Ran a heap of fill down for next year's job fixing the dam, but also re did area used for a burn pile. Have a good amount of land but most being pretty steep every little bit of flat land is worth its weight in gold lol. . Leveled good area with access down to it. . . Sooo good can back a ute down or perfect to load with little Vermeer beats do'n stuff by hand [emoji106]http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/09/53.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/09/54.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/09/55.jpg

8 and a half acres. She's long and narrow, that track is our land and wasnt there when we moved in. There was an overgrown track coming down from the other side of the dam which I assume was put in at the same time. Got it linked up years ago and probably best thing we've done to the property i reckon sooo much more useable. .

Just about to fire up the grill.

Has been a nightmare_Concrete Water Tank repairs, finished yesterday(took best part of 10 days full time).
In May 20 had 3 x 120,000 litre concrete water tanks poured, originally wanted only two (water reserve for fire fighting and irrigation for vegies_gravity feed 20m), but the 2nd pour (on hill) was real suss as mix was going off (the formwork not ready in time). Resulted in large pockets in wall (could see wall mesh).
These contractors were crap in my life, they offered to repair the suss tank and pour a third free, and so we did but at the end of the day all 3 leaked. Was so pis...ed off with the whole deal(lots of $$$s), they stuffed about with me so much, I ended up getting them to supply $1500 worth materials and did the repair job myself (locked the gate).
These tanks are 8.5m dia x 2.4m (h). Repair consisted: one repaired from outside as it was 3/4 full with rainwater_success), two on the hill consisted of patching up honey come defects / holes inside and then applying (brush/boom) water proofing cement based coating to entire walls/floors.
Came up pretty well and now just need to wait few week to completely cure and then fill with dam water(excess solar pwr_fill nom 24hrs each).
Only way out_do the job yourself...

Looking good gents, bloody good thread this one. Bidja they are some serious water tanks, hopefully all sorted now. Reminds me fixed (well atemted) to a gal tank but still leaks damit so will have to revisit that one should be fully dry now, bugger of a job. .
Did some extreme rock work starting a wall with mud stone off the property. . Started at the end with a big F off bullants nest and they were pretty pissed once I ripped open their nest poor buggers. . . Not easy trying to lay rocks crawling with the buggers only got one nip bloody miracle. .http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/09/112.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/09/113.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/09/114.jpg

Neat looking retaining wall coming together there Rossco, some serious lifting and must be glad for the pincher helpers haha.
The tanks were so humid to work inside of and still dealing with the heat rash (such a long way around the inside walls). Looking fwd to seeing result(few weeks away/cure time).
Did fill the 2 on the hill prior, but of course emptied for repair, they give good pressure/flow for fire hose at house (20m head/nozzle water throw good 15m). 50% improvement over the turkey nest dam that was up there.

The boxes are colourbond with aluminium corners it's a Bunnings cheapie. I've lined the inside with some black mulch film. The bench was painted in primer over all the welds. I'm going to let it bleed out and probably give the timber a stain later on.

Stick with water based stains too mate [emoji106][emoji106]
I may know a bloke/rep or two with solvent based industry knowledge and sure as poison wouldn’t want that stuff anywhere near my healthy vegies [emoji107][emoji107]
Only issue with water based stains is your timber must be below circa 15% moisture content. You’ve scored Australian Standard hardwood flooring +/- 11% IIRC by standard and should absorb the stain/evaporate leaving no leaching of Gnarly Shit :-(

A space cab GQ body is going on. They are doing a legends class next year for the older type cars which they use to use back in the 90s and early 2000s so full chassis/body cars modified to the limit. Most guys run buggys these days which are full custom tube type things.
This one is originally based on an fj45 chassis. Has a 400 cube chev with auto. Twin transfers. Rear disconnect. Portal reduction hubs. Air lockers front and rear. Hydraulically adjustable coilovers. Currently has 44 boggers/super swampers on it but they are being replaced with 42" sticky treps.
Yeah the gu in the background has all the goodies. 4" lift 35s, front locker, full bar work, rear drawers, roof rack etc etc. Tough tourer.

With no soccer and great weather I made the most of lockdown.
Pulled my finger out and made a start on the front yard.
Three yakkas and a boulder are now in easy access. Two other yakkas are rotten.
Going to ask my neighbour who has a dingo and tipper if he won't mind removing the rest of the white rocks and take it all away.
Going to put instant turf and some colour in the planter boxes. Hopefully I can get into Bunnings next weekend.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/05/180.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/05/181.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/05/182.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/05/183.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/05/184.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/05/185.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/05/186.jpg

Serious question, I had planned to paint my deck joists black so they will be less visible once the boards have been laid. I got to thinking and I have 20L of pitch black used diesel engine oil, I know back in the day people would paint their fences with it, and I've given it the sniff test and there is no real smell to it now that it has been sitting uncovered for at least 12 months in the shed.
Can anybody see any down sides to painting the joists with it? I'm not really looking to add any protection to the treated pine as it will be undercover, it is purely to stop being able to see the treated pine through the gaps in the boards.

Winnie hmmm if you are not looking to stop rot then I dont think I would mate. I would be concerned about the smell when it hits a 45C in the middle of summer? For the sake of $50 for paint just roll on paint mate.

I’d probably recommend a water based bitumen paint Chrisso Mate, we use it on posts for into ground applications with lesser grade timbers like Sugargum versus bulletproof Ironbark’s.
Have diesel sump oil mixed with turps (needed for workable painting) my hardwood fences for years and they unfortunately stick brown road dust horribly until they need re-coating again every other year painfully doesn’t last as long as you’d think [emoji848]

How big a gap are yoy leaving between boards? What is the contrast like between decking and joists? Maybe you are trying to solve a problem that really isn't there?

Thanks for talking me out of it!

True story.....treated piney aint a pinch of shit worth as it used to be!
If you’ve cut its ends with a saw 🪚 there is no protection as the process of treating barely sinks in on 5mm of outers gifted to you via merchants whole[emoji2961]

I ended up taking your good fellow advice and trying a Bunnings click and collect order and got 100m of the rubber "protect a deck"
For the price of it, it wasn't worth trying to find a reason not to use it, and it will solve the potential issue I had of seeing the joists through the boards, and may even help cushion the boards a little to reduce squeaking.

I finished off my storage deck. I suppose it's a mezzanine floor. I added some steel cabinets, which will be used for degreasers, paints chemicals etc.
I finished the stairs too. It's the first set of stairs I've built and I'm fairly happy with the fit up.

I've had that stuff regrow after nearly ten years. Killed it with many applications of Brushoff, and Roundup with a surfactant. Dug out the roots and followed as many tiny ones as I could get to. Was bloody surprised to see it come up in a ring around the area I cleared. Tough as old boots.

More of a combined weekend weeknight project. Slowly been making my way through the dogs brekky that was my shed. I had a basictable router that I just did not have room to setup, and was not practical to pull out everytime I wanted to use it, so it just didn't get used. I had an epiphany tonight and knocked it in here. At furthest back position it sits just behind the mitre saw. Stoked with the end result!

All items correctly fused related and earthed across proper busbars. Fridge not shown in this pic but sits neatly next to the compressor. You should make a diary note now mate. This is an Escape Of Liquid Event under your house insurance policy. It was on the first day of the build when they did this. Where that trench is I have dug it was covered in a massive pile of sand from the day after until pretty much the end of the build.

I got some stock from work to build a fire wood box on castors so I can store it under the smoker which is next to the oven and I and wheel it out to the fire pit when needed. It will also make it easier to load it when empty.

Gasless
Sent from my CPH1979 using Tapatalk
A lot of gasless needs the polarity to be reversed. So the electrode into the negative and the earth clamp into the positive. This will help to settle it down and make it run smoother for you. But it is always best to check the manufacturers instructions as the electrode polarity will be in them.

Hopefully this is the last stage in redoing the front.
3.5 metres of soil, 6 kgs of lawn seeds and some sort of Japanese maple tree thingie in the middle.
The seeds are overkill for the area, but I want full grass, that and a small bag of grass runners should do the job.
Best thing was as soon as I finished watering I was putting things away and the sun popped out..

Making the most of isolation, I machined up some timber today as per the missus request. She's asked for a desk/storage solution for the kids play area. This is as far as I got today. I cannot believe how nice the timber is. The top is a karri slab, and the legs are Redgum.
It's going to be the fanciest kids desk lol

I still can't believe the karri colour compared to Redgum. They are so different and vibrant.

Not so much a project but another job on the house.
The waste pipe for the pool filter was busted at the concrete slab it was on. So the pipe was re routed, in a dodgy way by the previous owners to another point.
So I managed to reconnect the busted pipe into its original connection in the slab, turned the waste on the pump and water came gushing out from underneath the retaining where the slab is near. So I guess the pipe is busted under the concrete bench the pipe above the concrete being re routed.
So after smashing the conc out with a sledgy, cutting away at the retaining wall I found the leak.

You can see the hole in the bend and the 40mm pipe is not even sealed where it goes into larger pipe.

mudski, you just are setting your expectations too high. Drop them to the level of drongo and this is ace quality. Just wrap the holes in alfoil and gladwrap, layer of silastic and bury the bastard - sorted, - I mean the water doesn't flow on the top side of the pipe does it? Plant a big arse tree over the top and the roots will eventually find the water and the problem is solved. call me anytime for further technical input.

Haha. The amount of rock, rubble and rubbish that was burried under the conc aswell, no wonder the pipe was busted. The entire retaining wall, and all the conc under the pergola and around the pool is being removed in the next month or so for new paving, so I had to get this done before they come in and do their thing.
Well done mate! Big effort there!

So while getting back to the above project I figured out that they’ve plumbed the pool waste into the storm water. Kinda not allowed. And to think a plumber built this house.
So more digging required to get access to the shitter pipe to the left.
85035
I repaired the stormy pipe and a bit more digging I managed to get the waste pipe to twist towards the shitter pipe. It wasn’t stuck enough in the conc so I could move it freely.
This is where I stop. Adapting the 40mm pvc pressure pipe into the 100mm waste pipe, and where it lines up at the shit pipe is beyond me. We have a plumber coming over soon to change out the tank hws to instant so he can deal with it.

Last two weekends I've started a new shed build project. So far all walls are made and installed. Roof trusses are all made but I've run outta puff so I'll attend to them next available opportunity. Scored all the timber for.free through work, it's all second hand hardwood, no nails was just fixed to battens with screws so minor screw holes. Seems too good to use for a shed by if it's for free, it's for me!
The plan is to make some covered area in attempt to fit all the tools in it, then remove the current smaller shed.8506685067

Is that it?The brick wall is my neighbours garage, and I need some covered area for my shed contents before I take the old one down. I've also been using the saw bench to cut all the studs and trusses etc. It's a really awkward process but it's just the way I need to do it. I'm not going to be able touch it now for three weeks, but hopefully the weather is good then and I can start pulling apart the old one. It's very full inside [emoji45]

How big do they grow? I don’t want anything that will grow massive and cover the window.
That whole garden area there has Camelias, which flower and produce vibrant winters, pinks and reds.
The rest of the block is natives. So I’m thinking we should not go natives.
Btw! Last time you were over Nic I forgot to talk to you about doing those floating shelves in the kitchen.
And agapanthus! I got them in my driveway and I hate them. Albeit very hardy. But nah!

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMate I'm sorry but I'm taking the piss. Agapanthus are horrid, they are the sorry of thing you line your Colonial Cottage driveway with, nearly impossible to kill. Best advice is go to a native nursery and chat with a horticulturist there. As for the shelves, yep we definitely forgot that. We should look into it mate. I'm working in Footscray at the moment, happy to come past on the way home one day to measure and chat.

How are mate? Long time no speak.
Yeah we've done a little bit. We added roughly another third onto the house with the extension. I still have laundry and bathroom to do upstairs, plus re floor the hallway and staircase. Then fix up the rumpus downstairs, needs a ceiling and lights. Outside is paving and pool fence as you can see, also change out the windows in the back of the house to timber and then render the back, build an outdoor kitchen etc etc.
Then!!! for the front of the house, change out all the windows aswell, remove the balcony and re do it, make the double garage with two single rollers doors, and a brick pillar in between, to one single door, put a new roller door on the new garage next to it and also render the front. There's more but thats all I can think of whats on my list right now. Lol. Im busy for the next 10 years atleast.
As for the Patrol, yeah still enjoying it mate. I'd love a new one but thats out of reach so I'm stuck with the old GUrl. She needs a new gearbox though, 3rd to 4th under power she crunches real bad, to the point its like Im not using the clutch, plus its done around 450thou so its time. Just gotta justify the cost to the minister of war and finance first. Lol.

It’s not perfect, I’m no wiz when it comes to stuff like this, there is some things that are not quite right but it’s as good as I can get it. I’m reasonably happy with the outcome. Some plants will hide the imperfections I am hoping. [emoji38]
