Mudski made mention of 200days in lockdown here in Melbourne.
I'm sure that there are lots of people in the same position as my son.
Next Friday is his 17th birthday, like last year it will be spent in lockdown. From going to a sport school, trading 3 nights and playing every Sunday over a 32 round season to being bored at home on his own. Some say that we are lucky to be both working yes we are, but at what cost..

Yep my daughter spent her 17th last year and the better part of year 11 in lockdown and now she’s done her 18th and year 12! Can’t get her drivers license too. She managed to buy a car between lockdowns though.

Uuuummm... whats a lockdown?
Here in the great Cave State of WA us troglodytes are using Lock Outs instituted under the tyrannical boot heel of our Lord High Imperious Emperor for Life Mark the Messiah McGowan to save us from the diseased peasants to our east.
Being a New South Welshman himself he knows first hand the biblical pestilence that we would endure if even one of you broke thru the borders.

At this stage they want a "crop spray" effect , the more people jabbed the better.
But they will strongly advise you against it , in case one or both of you go down hill.
They're not happy to do both parents at once if kids are involved , I think the recommend it few days apart.

Good to see plenty of positives here.
For me, I went to my vet to get a script , "G`Day Pearcey can you wait a minute." Waited while the lass played on the computer. " Is such an such a time and date ok?" "What for?" "The jab" " Wait I`m here to book to get a script, but I can do the jab at the same time," That was some five plus months ago. She also book the second at the same time. All done and dusted by June the fifteenth. No side effect at all, wouldn`t known I`d had it if I wasn`t there.

Ive held off commenting on this because I don’t want to start any trouble but we’re all entitled to our own opinions , We haven’t been vaccinated and won’t be, it should be up to personal choice, 1stly it’s a VACCINATION not an IMMUNISATION - there’s a big difference, vaccinated people will still catch it & yes likely get less sick but they can still spread it even though being vaccinated so the whole thing about the vaccine passport is a load of shit in my opinion . Even vaccinated you can still catch it & spread it when you have it so what’s the point ? I believe London is nearly 100% vaccinated yet still records 30,000 cases a day , big deal, there are more people that actually die of flu , the common cold & tuberculosis every month than this disease has killed in the whole time Yet they don’t lockdown the country for any of those things , I don’t for a second deny the disease exists but the everyday person won’t die from it , that has been proven in areas where they found traces of COVID-19 in the sewage system but there are no recorded cases there because some people contract & get over the disease without thinking they have more than a cold, yet the media portrays it as a death sentence . Like I say everyone is entitled to opinion & those that want to get vaccinated is their own business but it shouldn’t be forced upon anybody . I didn’t write this to alienate , offend or upset anybody but like I said at the start everyone is entitled to their opinion .

I don’t for a second deny the disease exists but the everyday person won’t die from it.
as you said you have an opinion mate, i dont judge you for it at all but i just want to correct the above comment. google fit person dies from covid. there have been plenty of cases where people who are perfectly fit and healthy have died from covid, where if they had been vaccinated they would have just had a "mild flu" if they were vaccinated. the initial virus itself isnt just the problem, there are long term affects which the vaccine protects you from should you survive, you should google long covid. unfortunately the adverse affects of long covid havent been journaled and peer reviewed as yet as the sample size needs to be significant and the reviewing process is lengthy.

This is a good read from Professor Peter Doherty.
https://www.doherty.edu.au/news-events/setting-it-straight/issue-65-cracking-covid-where-weve-been-and-where-to-next
"If you have friends and family members who are vaccine-hesitant, I suggest they go to SBS On Demand and view the 90 minutes of filmmaker Sonya Pemberton’s wonderful documentary Jabbed. https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/30004803525/jabbed-love-fear-and-vaccines This is now seven years old, so it doesn’t directly address the situation for COVID-19. But it’s a great, and balanced, discussion of both the risk/benefit equation for infectious diseases and how vaccines work."
I personally worked on this documentary (Jabbed) and it is presented in a very informative and unbiased way.
Sonya’s new documentary Cracking COVID on the ABC is very compelling too. It follows a few intimate stories of people who have contracted COVID-19. https://iview.abc.net.au/show/cracking-covid
I honestly feel that everyone should view Cracking COVID and assess your judgement on this virus.
Whatever your stand, if you still feel the same after viewing it, then if nothing else, you have gained a little more knowledge to back up your opinion.

i think the point is, with qantas, that if you fly you are pretty much forced to be in a confined space with other people whether you like it or not. from a workplace standpoint, surely this cant be feasable? i you loose 1 flight attendant or pilot per even 5 flights how long till you cant man the flights due to your staff always being off sick?

Understand that but why then are we allowed to fly from Melbourne to Perth wearing a mask which is deemed enough protection, surely it’s no different than me flying for example to Bali, not withstanding to rampant positive people over there of course.

I would’ve thought that this initiative by Qantas International was to genuinely assist us Australian’s in helping safeguard against the virus being brought into Australia?
Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t this latest outbreak fly in somehow from India?
Hopefully the government steps up for all modes of international transport as French Polynesia to our east is currently getting smashed by Covid and the main destinations for cruise ships and the like.
Correct me if I’m wrong again but didn’t the original strain dock in Sydney on the Ruby Princess?

Youre not wrong in my humble opinion mate. clearly this affects everyone. its sad people are reading into the hype of misinformation. realistically this virus makes life shit for 100% of the people it touches, you dont even have to catch the virus to be downtrodden by it. the sooner people tow the line and get vaccinated the better it will be for everyone!!

What I'm finding with people posting things like this is that they tend to be living outside the major affected area's, like metro Melbourne. They haven't had to endure anything like what we've had to go through so they simply just don't understand. Seeing things from the outside, of anything, will always give one a different perspective. Its not until one has to live through it, then they will have more compassion and understanding.
I just block people like this on FB now, I cannot be bothered with it.

That's ashame mate, you're a bloody smart guy, surely you can see through the hype and hysteria that's is being drummed up by posts this his? I would say most of the statements he's made at are mostly incorrect and some are pure fiction.
I have had flu vaccines every year all my life, all my family are fully vaccinated, I've had my first dose of Pfizer and am booked in for my second. As the anti vaxxers claim, yes you can still catch covid, but it dramatically reduces the chance of catching it, dramatically reduces the risk of becoming seriously ill and drastically reduces mortality. Aren't you worried about your kids health if they become infected? At the end of the day everything I do is for my kids and if having a vaccine is what needs to be done to keep them safe then I'm 100% onboard, no exceptions.

The Rona is out and they’re not going to haul it back in. We’ve been lucky here in SA, our mob called it early and only locked down for a week. Vic and NSW waited and then it’s too late to lockdown. Fuck me how many days now, and numbers are still rising, yeah?
Its here for good now, can’t stay in lockdown forever.
Edit: Has anyone here had it? Does anyone here know personally anyone who’s had it?

I don’t want to argue either , as I said earlier we’re all entitled to our opinions . I’m not an anti Vaxxer at all - I’ve been immunised against everything & so have my kids - that hardly labels me an anti vaxxer , I’m NOT on FB so I don’t get blind sided by shit on there either , I do a lot of my own research & make up my own mind . There’s miss information coming from both sides, like I got sent a link to a post on YouTube about a guy going on about Covid tests & not to get them because they are laced with EO which is carcinogenic, I know EO is carcinogenic because it’s in glycol / coolant, but it freaked me out a bit as I’ve had a few tests as have my family so I looked it up yes EO is in glycol & is carcinogenic but it is also the most commonly used medical steriliser & when used for that ( I can’t remember the term they use) but they change its chemical composition & it loses its carcinogenic properties. Like I said I don’t just listen to everything I’m told from either side I do my own research & as for rally in melb I know a fair few people there & they said it was all fine then all of a sudden certain members of the crowd launched an attack on the police, it’s now been ALLEGEDED there was undercover police they’re acting as protesters & inciting violence , I don’t know for sure but if I knew how to put pictures on here I could show you people that clearly have vests under their T shirts , hand cuffs in their back pockets & the 1s that started the trouble all had thin blue bracelets on , I’m not saying the story is fact but the pictures make you wonder ? I don’t know about anything anymore , the whole thing is dividing friends & families which is sad . I’ve got my ideas & opinions & I generally keep them to myself , those who want to get vaccinated go ahead - I don’t try & convince anyone otherwise by bombarding people with the research I’ve done to give my perspective but I expect the same in return , opinions are like a penis - it’s fine to have 1 but don’t jam it down my throat . This is not aimed at ANYONE at all just my 2c worth . It’s a sad time in our lives that’s for sure .

Yeh, a guy I used to work with, and his two house mates, contracted COVID during the previous big wave that Vic had in June 2020.
He told me it knocked him out flat for several weeks. Fortunately he wasn't hospitalised and recovered (same with his house mates I believe). I'm not sure if he's had any long-term issues after recovery.
He's in his mid 20's.

What terrifies and annoys me more than the actual virus, is the division it is creating amongst people. You cannot escape it.
Every soul has the right to express their thoughts. But fuck me dead things have stepped up a notch lately....
My work for instance, right now is a gloomy depressing shit hole. Work is the same. It's the mood and vibe around the place that makes me shiver...
It is absolutely depressing nowadays. Not because of the virus, or the work, or personal mental issues. It's because of the split between what once were "workmates". Vaxers vs. Anti-vaxers. Believers vs. not believers. Dan Andrews supporters vs. non supporters. Flat earthers vs. round-earthers (Yes we have those too!).
It is absolutely fucked... For the first time in 20 years I actually hate going to work because of it. I've taken so many days off and sickies lately, not because i'm crook or need a holiday. I just hate going in and listening everyone barraging each other with for and against covid shit.
Walking into the mess room each morning and multiple faces glued to the fucking news screen obsessed with covid numbers with various pros and cons chit chats echoing in the background...Can't avoid it. It's hard enough being depressing at home being not allowed to go anywhere amongst other things. Last thing a person needs is to go to work and face the same demons...
For the first time ever I just go in do the work and then fuck off home. There is no point hanging around in the morning or arvos any longer for a chat because it always funnels down the same shit-hole conversation about someones opinion about either the virus, the vaccine, dan andrews, the protests... etc. etc...
I chose not to discuss it with anyone, nor do i watch news or listen to radio. This is the first time i'm voicing my self about it in weeks.
As mentioned several times above, opinions are like shits you take daily. Everyone shits. Some do it once, others shit all fucking day long. And THEN there is some who SHIT all day long and then love to rub it and throw it in your face continuously.
It's how you wield those opinions that can cause an effect.
I'm not an anti-vaxer, but i don't like vaccines personally. Am I gonna pressure someone for or against? Hell no. Your choice. All power to you.
I never had a flu needle to my knowledge. And I've never ever had a flu for that matter. I like to believe in body building it's own immunity personally. But I also believe this covid shit is an entirely different game. So I got vaxed. I have my underlaying dependant reasons for that. Otherwise, that thing would not go anywhere near me.
Whether it will do or help with anything, I don't know. I can only hope. But I made a decision and that was that.
I have a close family member working at one of the hospitals and shes showed and told me stuff that was enough for me to feel i need to act.
Also the place where I'm from in Europe usually has some severe winters, flu and cold seasons. People grew hardy against that. But last year covid hit and annihilated a good chunk of people who otherwise would not have felt a thing. And then I get people waving the "It's just a sniffle/flu" flag right in my face. But I still give them credit for their opinion...Their choice.

I am annoyed that on the 23rd of Nov SA is going to let the diseased people in. Should keep our border closed a little longer
Aren't they just the ones that are not vaccinated? - or am I missing something? I agree its a risk, am double vax'd myself, but just because these people don't have the jab doesn't mean they are infected surely?

They shut the testing station for thousands of truckies using the Portland Port. When asked for a solution the Melbourne based office gave this answer:
Go to Nhill to get tested. :clapping: I suppose it is only an inch away on the map.

What I'm getting at, is that the truckies still have to get tested every three days because they cross the border hauling woodchips. The city based numpties want the truckies to travel to the border testing station near Nhill, which is a six hour round trip.

Well I drove through the night all night yesterday to make a long journey on the kids easier. We arrived back at 3am after a non-stop journey. Carried extra jerries to make it home from Sydney without any stops.
I tested positive via RAT yesterday morning, feeling pretty average. Tegan has gone downhill dramatically today also. We had PCR tests done on the whole family today and currently in home quarantine awaiting results.
I'm almost certain I've caught it so is Tegan. This illness is like nothing we've ever had before.
All I can say is thank for for the vaccine. I feel like I've been through a couple of very bad days that I just thought was a very big hangover however I have never seen Tegan floored by any illness this bad before, I'd hate to know what it is like without the vaccine.

It's an out of control wildfire now. It's just gonna rip through everyone from here on in.
I personally went from knowing very few people who copped it over the last few years... To now knowing 35-40 in the last few weeks.
Several at work but thank fuck most were on leave...
Few tough as a diamond blokes from work went from a minor sniffle and a funny taste in their mouths, and 24 hours later to a bed-ridden 5 day ordeal from hell.
One of them described it like a flu, sinus infection, massive hang over , headache , toothache , very hard to breath , while having your lungs internally scraped with a barb wire ..
All at the same time 5 days straight no letting up.

Growing up with asthma before puffers & all the medication were available for it, I've always valued clean air.
One thing I've always thought was pretty yuck is cigarette smoke. The smoke exhaled has been inside someone's lungs. Always made me wonder what that smoke came out of that persons lungs with along with the smoke. And yes, you do smell cig smoke through masks.
Not bagging smokers, it's just a great way to show how the air we breath goes everywhere.
Anyway, enough about me, let's talk about me. :santa:

Eldest grand daughter finally admitted to hospital after 3 visits and no beds, call and ambulance when she starts 'fitting'. Ended up finally getting admitted last night unconscious, straight into intensive care - boy oh boy, our medical system is under a lot of load and stress right now. They dont know whats going on yet, but running 42degC and now on drip with antibiotics. She is 2 years old, Her sister is 1 YO and heading to hospital today as well. Keep an eye out people , this gets real and very fast. Strains upon strains of virus out there, dont think its directly covid but looking like a variant that keeps mutating. Wider message is only head to hospitals if you are on deaths door it seems, not with a scratch or a sniffle.

Sorry to hear that news mate. Praying for you folks to have a good out come.
My Daughter works in the Royal Adelaide Hospital, in the covid section . Full PPE , tested twice a day. Been lucky as she only caught it a couple of weeks ago after two and a half years. Both her kids got it, but they really didn`t know that they had it. Life was normal apart from the isolation.
This thing affects people in all different ways, so get tested if you feel just slightly off colour

It’s everywhere, seven of the grandchildren and their parents have had it in the last month (total of 13 cases). All vaccinated and three have been really unwell and still have after effects (no taste or smell and still coughing). The youngest two who were to young to get vaccinated tested positive and had absolutely no issues at all.
Seems to hit different people in different ways.
We are continuing to wear masks, can’t afford to catch it at our age.

Thanks guys, the hospital is run off its feet. The doctors wanted to send her home this morning to free up a bed, like she was on a respirator last night and unconscious. Trouble is, she is on a rapid 'I'm fine, I'm crashing cycle, so my daughter pushed back and said no, she needs to be clear of this especially as she isn't diagnosed apart from having sepsis last night, so a very sick kid. She is now playing in the RMDH nursery and my wife is letting her run around, as the pattern is she will crash very soon. Very odd, but great standard care and being careful just isn't enough to safeguard against these infections. Lets see what tonight brings. The youngest remains at home as she hasn't reached the required level on incapacity to validate for a hospital bed. We are not used to this level of care or approach - sign of the times but no doubt still 1000 ties better tan some countries.

Hope for a speedy recovery for the little ones PeeBee ! Kids are resilient. But when it hits them that hard at that age, you know it's not good.
Keep us updated mate.
The legends at ER / Hospitals are knackered at the moment. Wouldn't wish anyone a visit to those corridors right now.
Close family member works at one of the major local hospitals and shes broken. Last few months have been harder than all of last Covid times put together since it began.
They're flooded with people hit by strains and symptoms of Covid, FLu and cold, never seen before and undocumented.

Again, thanks for the responses. Olive was released from hospital last night at 8pm. She was running amuck in the Ronald McDonald play centre and giving plenty of cheek apparently, and didnt crash in the previous cycles so no real justification to hold a bed up from the emergency room full of sick people. So its a wait and see, still sitting on a knife edge with the 1 YO as she is glugged up as well - today will probably reveal more.

Bloody Heel PeeBee. All the best mate. It's a frightening time. When Zach was diagnosed Type 1 Diabetic he was DKA un-responsive Critical. Hr went straight into ICU and qe had to sit by his bed for 3 days. I was instructed to pinch his arm every hour to make sure he flinched to confirm Brain Function!!! The Fuck!!! No-one should have to do that. It was a long wait.
Hopw your little ones pull through stronger than ever mate.

Thanks guys, she is home but back to the GP today as covered in hives or measle type blob. With luck its simply a reaction to the antibiotics, will see how she pulls up in a couple of days. Her younger sister remains at home but glugged up, would not meet the criteria even if she was worse it seems - our medico's are getting smashed, but lets smash 40M on subsidising the grand prix. Right now I am not returning home, everyone is infected with whatever it is, bed ridden, can't take the risk to be honest. Unsure what I am doing as of monday at this point.
