Hey guys, Josh here from the Sunshine Coast. Recently purchased a 2001 GU (ST Model) with a blown zd30, absolutely immaculate not a spec of rust or barely a scratch. Looking under the rig it as clean as the outside, can tell it has lived the majority of its life on the road. Now its booked in with the patrol specialists, unfortunately I have to wait until the end of July/start of August before they can make a start on it because they are so busy. But dam I am excited! Getting a TD42 conversion with genuine turbo kit, 3 inch exhaust and a tune expecting to run between 15-20 psi. These boys handpick the motors themselves and the price we have agreed on is a locked in tow in drive out price with warranty. Ive wanted a TD42 for years now, this is ultimately my dream car and I cant wait to deck it out with all the touring gear and get into some wheeling. I'm going to be having a look and probably doing all the brakes/rotors, diff oils and what not while the shell is sitting around waiting to get towed away, would love to hear any ideas on what I should do in the meantime while I wait! cheers guys

Welcome mate. The list is a mile long. Have a look through the forum and you'll see things you like. Start a build thread too :)

Awesome mate. Congrats and welcome . Is the donor engine already a factory turbo? Is that the turbo you are getting or a new bolt on? Ask for a price for the motor without the factory turbo buy retain the manifold and bolt a better turbo on mate. 15psi is comfortably all you will get out of that and it will be gasping for air by then. If you are paying $700 for that second hand turbo bolted to the block I would ask to remove that from the price and add a better turbo.

Hey mate I don't know all the technical details yet as its still a while away before my cars going to be in their hands. Last time I spoke he said that they use a genuine turbo or a DTS kit depending on whats in stock at the time but I wont know exactly until its a bit closer to being started, will defiantly speak to him about doing a turbo upgrade though.

Cheers for all the replies guys muchly appreciated, Just ordered the (G52 - BET) Redarc boost / egt gauge with an optional temp sensor, Ive also got the 3 gauge pod pillar garnish on order so Im chasing another two gauges, probably an oil pressure gauge and dual battery voltage, thoughts anybody? and i’ve been reading alot of good stuff about vdo, any issues having a red arc gauge and two vdo’s? or does anybody recommend any other good brands that are good bang for buck? I dont want to cheap out on whats going to prevent me from causing damage

100% Do Not fit a factory kit. I would also not rate the DTS kit either to be honest. It is pretty old and conservative tech. I have a DTS kit on my GQ and it is OK.... the Borg Warner kit on my GU is incomparable. Like generations better.

Do a build thread mate so this doesn't get lost in an intro thread and there are plenty here that will point you away from Factory or DTS.

Yeah I was thinking 15psi is really absolute top end for a factory turbo. It would be really over working at this rate.

I had a dts kit on mine I reckon. Was on there when I got it. Seemed like a bit of a waste of money really. I was running it at 15 psi and I reckon that was past what it was good for.. Bit bigger UFI turbo on it now which seems to be pretty good, maybe not as good as the Borg-Warner's mentioned above but a straight bolt up unit.

Hey mate on a quick google search the Borg Warner Kit seems pretty comparable in price too, might have to look into that!.

I've also started a build thread now thanks for the recommendations and the replies guys.
