View Full Version : A/C line in the way of turbo induction pipe on turbo install.

Hi guys.

I’ve been installing a Mamba 18G & top mount intercooler etc over the last 2 weeks. I was hoping to run 4” inlet from the snorkel (Patrol Dr bonnet entry) to the turbo. I now have found that the A/C line to fire wall is preventing the 4” inlet. 3” will probably fit, But rather stay with 4”. Just wondering what others have done? I spoke to the local auto elect today & he said he could possibly mod the pipe work. He didn’t sound to keen & wasn’t overly helpful! My compressor uses the pad mount type hoses. He says he needs at least an inch of pipe left after cutting to fit the fitting, to change the route of the hose. If I cut the line back to the straight section, it would be lucky to be 1/2 an inch left. Basically I need a pad mount with a straight pipe protruding at least that inch. Anyone know if they are available?

Other option is a new compressor with the screw on hoses. Although money’s not an issue, I hate wasting the stuff!

Any help much appreciated cheers Jono.

I have just gone thru a similar issue, not the same connections, however if you go to a dedicated a/c shop instead of an auto elec you might get a better result. My local a/c shop is absolutely brilliant, nothing a problem, he has all the fittings and can access those he doesn't have. I see this as a really solve-able issue to be honest. I think the guy you have been talking with simply does not want the job. I am in Melb by the way, so cannot help with a suitable shop, maybe someone up your way can. good luck. Worst case, you can get a custom fitting made - I went this way, and was not that expensive to be honest.

Not that I recommend it.. But I bent mine to get the room I needed. I only ran a 3in though, so it didn't need to move as far as that I think mine just needed a little wriggle room.. Not the 2in it looks like yours needs.

I reckon Phil is onto it. Take it to someone who actually wants your money to have a look.

Yeah the connection on mine at the pump is pointing straight up.

Did you bend yours to get it standing straight up? Or is it factory like that? I bent the return line near straight up, but the pressure line doesn’t want to budge. Feels like it’s going to snap before it bends?

I got them like this. Bought them from a wrecker. From memory they were off a TB45 engine. Same pump similar hoses apparently to the TD.
Has the system got gas in it?

I got into anther mob today, same thing, don’t seem to interested! Was supposed to call me back & didnt. I rang this arvo & got the answering maxhine. Left a mes & still no reply. There’s no dedicated A/C place around here! Only auto elects! This place wants to be a striving metropolis, but it hasn’t got the talent or the know how!

The other mob got back to me, $500 to mod the hose! So I ended up taking the chance & bent the pipes. Had the ol freckle puckering waiting for the line to crack. Got it where it needed to be without any cracks.

Thanks for the reply’s/help

Cheers Jono
