Hi i am hoping other patrol owners can answer my question i have had problems with my cental locking system had it repared but i feel its still happening and the auto electrician is saying its normal so want to know from othernissan patrol owners if it is.
1. When i unlock my car via the central locking button i open the back doors to put my kids in and like after 30 seconds all the doors lock again. I am being told this is a safety / security feature???.. is this the case.
2. When i unlock my car going to get in it but then get caught up with things and haven't opened any doors it locks its self. Is this normal??.. i think it could be and that's more of a sercuity feature but not necessary my point 1.
Thoughts from other patrol owners.

Thanks

It is normal ... well I think it is.
I own my second patrol now and both have done this .
If unlocked and all 4 of the main doors are not disturbed , car will re lock again.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think even when I open the barn door , it over rides this. I'm not with the car , so can't test it.

I think most modern cars have the factory feature that if the car has been locked, then you unlock it with the remote, if you don't open any doors within 30 seconds the system will relock again.
My 2004 GU III does this with the factory locking system.
Locking automatically after you have opened a door sounds like something that an aftermarket alarm can do but not a factory system.
I previously owned a car with an aftermarket alarm that locked the doors automatically after a short time.
Is your remote locking system factory?

Is the little switch for the interior roof light at the barn door working ?

If the BCU does not sense a door opening, it will lock the vehicle again.

Hi Heather,

I've got a 2012 model and can confirm that once I unlock via central locking it automatically locks again if I don't open any doors within a set time.
If I unlock any door (front, rear, barn) it doesn't relock, I actually went and checked each individual door.

I think you have a safety issue. I recently read of this happening to a mother who put her child in the childseat and left her bag in the car at the same time, it automatically locked and she had to call 000.

I'll try and find the link to this later tonight for you.

Dungbeetle Has a good point. If one of the door switches is faulty, it won't detect a door being open, hence auto locking.

As a matter of fact, I recall when I had my 2009 Patrol the bar door switch was stuffed at one point. I discovered it, not with the auto lock function, but the light not going on when door open.

Heather. Check the rear barn door switches.

if in doubt, always leave a window down

I am OCD about this

I think its normal but 30 seconds seems a little quick.

Forgot to get back to you on this. I spoke with my mechanic mate who's also a licensed vehicle tester for VicRoads, according to him this technically makes the car unroadworthy.
Once any door has been opened it should not automatically lock again.
Recommend you check with your state authority as well.
