Battery

Hi,

Does anyone happen to know what brand battery was factory fitted to my 2014 3lt CRD Y61 Patrol? Mine is over still working well, but the time for replacement must be coming up soon. It's been a great battery and I'm curious to know the make/brand.

Have you thought about pulling it out to have a look? It would likely have some sort of identification beyond telepathic!

I find it amazing that the battery in a new vehicle will usually last 4 years plus (bazzaboy's is a good example at over 5 years), yet almost any replacement battery will be doing well if it lasts for 3 years.

I had my factory battery since buying the car in 2012, never gave me any issues in 145,000 km. Only replaced it in August to do our central Australia trip, due to it’s age I didn’t want to risk it. I run a light bar, IPFs and winch and do a lot of night driving.

Just went out and checked it, still holding 11.98v and has been standing under the pergola for nearly six months.
No stickers but has these Details: 115D3IL Shin-Kobe Electric Machine Co Ltd

Shin-Kobe is part of Hitachi and are well known in the UPS world for quality batteries.

FWIW as a cranker battery I swear by Cat Batteries, great value for money, 3 year warranty and I always seem to get at least 5 years out of them (usually sell the car before I need another one)

Yes PeeBee, that thought did come to mind. There is no stickers on it anywhere, but it looks like a name and number was engraved on the bottom base/edge. Unfortunately it is illegible because of rubbing, but it starts with the letter "E". i thought Exide, but I also thought unlikely to be an Australian battery, but it looks similar. I'll probably never know, but it is still going strong after so many years. I put it's longevity down to charging it, and my auxiliary battery, on a good quality 240 volt "smart" charger, once a month. I have been doing this on my last two 4wd's over ten years, and never had battery issues. My last two Prados were sold after 5 years on each, both with the "factory fitted batteries in them.

Me too, and that's why I was curious about the "factory fitted" battery in my current 2014 Patrol.

my 2011 gu came with a panasonic battery . after a year and a half i could tell it was cranking a little slower but still started the car well . at about the 5 and a half year mark it started to crank a little slower so i changed it out for a optima yellow top which still starts like new at about 2 and a half years old
