Best Mechanical engine for swap

Hi I was wondering what the most reliable mechanical motor is for a gu

If I personally were trying to conquer the flats of Mongolia packing light and reliable I’d say TD42 earliest GU variants and or a faithful good old GQ.
If I were trying to conquer colder climate mountains I’d also say TD42 but maybe add a turbo factory T.
Most Legends these days swear by the last of the bestest TD42Ti’s for all around and sand performance capable too if tweaked a wee little bit further I’m also intercooler lead to believe :-) !

Well you didn't say you had a 30k budget.. 6bt if you've got the time and money.

Very heavy engine the 6BT. In Vic, you cant get them thru engineering with anything more than the factory front bumper bar and licence plate. I know a guy who did the conversion and was selling the kits for them after learning the pitfalls. They are a powerful motor for sure.

A highly underrated motor these oldies!
Too many people expect them from bog stock to meet all of their weaponary highway dreams!
All I nuffy know is that if you treat them well like a good old faithful tractor they’ll run your A/C all day in the harshest low and slow conditions [emoji106][emoji106]

I've honestly got no idea why anyone wants to soup up a TD42T. Yeah they struggle to drag off a Datsun Stanza but they're strong, reliable, simple donks. The times I've let it pull me through slow technical spots at idle I've lost count while others try to keep theirs in their torque zone and flap around like muppets. This donk makes me look like a good driver and I wouldn't soup it for anything. But then I look like a muppet pulling away at the lights and I can live with that. Low, slow torque does it for me.

Because you don't necessarily lose that low and slow torque with a bit more fuel and boost. The thing will still crawl over anything, it just has the added benefit of destroying a solid sand dune when you want it to now as well. You can actually choose a gear other than low first and still have a bit of torque available.. Just not for too long or the kettle will boil 😂
