Hi all
I have a 2002 zd30, and I am in the process of fitting gauges. Where do you all put your egt probes? Pre or post turbo? I have a stock exhaust system on it, is it possible to mig or tig a 1/8 fitting on post turbo while it is in place? Also, there is a normal looking OBD socket, but it seems to speak a different language? Consult? How do you all hook into this?
The turbo boost control from the ecu ( what I am seeing on the boost gauge ) seems crap, but I wont mess with it until I get some egt readings,
Are all stock ZD30 manuals sluggish off the mark?
Have only had the car for a few weeks, so If I ask silly questions, sorry about that!
Cheers, Mick.

Hey mate.
Most have it after turbo on the dump pipe. How much difference , if any , that makes compared to pre-turbo? I'm not sure.
Your 2002 will have Consult interface , not OBD-II.
I believe OBD-II started when the CRD motors kicked in... I could be wrong.

As for your boost. All ZD30 factory turbo control is absolute s#it. Take control of it manually with a needle and dawes valve to control the spool up and max boost etc... Just search this forum there is a lot of info on it out and about.
It'll help a lot and also help tame your EGT's.
But you will need to fit gauges in order to do this so you can see what it's doing before and after.

Most put the probe in post turbo. as close as you can to the turbo on the dump pipe. The OBD socket you talk of is pre OBDII, ECU Talk is the little gadget you require for it to work. Your EGT will be shocking if you have no sort of boost control. And yes they are sluggish of the mark, adding a boost controller in, bigger exhaust etc will help out a fair bit. But remember, its a small engine in a big and heavy vehicle. Its no race car.

Most put egt prob in dump pipe because it’s easy...the best place is in the exhaust manifold where all the exhaust runners merge together right before the turbo turbo flange....

Also you just drill and tap the manifold normally 1/8bsp or 1/4 bsb if it’s the reducing bush type...

Thanks people, gauges are now functional. Took the easy way out for now. Highest egt I have seen was not far below 600. Will an EGR blank lower the egts?
