You can physically do it.. but you won't have any of tge auto-stop safety features and will need to wire it inn yourself

but...

If you want to avoid extra wiring, switches etc and retain the same features as the factory system you can add a high wattage shunt resistor at the Aftermarket Pump connection so the resistance seems the same to the Sub Tank Computer.
Mine was a 3 Ohm IIRC.
The factory resistance is in the manual, if you measure the new pump and adjust accordingly the system will work as factory

Yeah, one of those things that can be done but not the simplest thing to do so most don't bother and just run a power wire and put in a switch.

What model?
GU TD42 was around 2 Ohms IIRC

My last GU was a 99 Ute.
Started life as a TD42 but was a 6.5 Brunny when I bought it.
I've sold it now so cant check the brand/model but was around 120 LPH (similar to factory flow rate) low pressure jobbie and IIRC required a 3 Ohm resistor to fool the sub tank computer and pass the self test.
The resistor connection failed one time and I had to resolder it out bush which was a bit of a PIA.
The vehicle was owned by a wheat farmer so the pump was a bog standard one used on plant and equipment on the farm and might have been either a "facet" or "bosch" or possibly "AC Delco" but Facet rings a bell from somewhere.

No matter what brand you may have to do a bit of trial and error to sort it out
