Morning All,

First time poster here. Looking for some advice from you all on my next steps for my NISSAN Patrol DX Wagon.

In summary, I live in Perth, the Patrol is a 2002 model and needed towing yesterday with the diagnosis being a new fuel pump and some other bits and pieces with total cost around $4k to repair. I don’t think I will repair it as the car is becoming to unreliable and it’s time for me to retire it for a few reasons:

1. The car has a significant amount of rust around the body. I don’t wish to pay to have it cut out and repainted.
2. The sub tank light pump also needs replacing and won’t transfer between tanks (confirmed pump is the issue).
3. The central locking was stopped working.

On the plus side of benefits:
1. It now has a brand new clutch and master slave put in four months ago $3,800 worth (old one died).
2. It had the engine completely reconditioned 4 years ago ($10k job) as old engine died. It had 250,000km at the time and has done another 100,000km with the new engine;
3. It had a Steinboer Turbo chip put in with the reconditioned engine.
4. It has a winch, lift kit, 5 reasonably new tyres, arb diff lock, Inbuilt air compressor etc.

I don’t think I can get much money for it when it’s not working. Should I try to sell as is, or get a scrap yard to give me some money for it. Any advice please.

Many thanks
John

No Scrap Yard. I assume it is a ZD30 Engine? Look for a second hand fuel pump if you need to or consider wrecking the car yourself. Scrap yard will give you $1000 for it probably but you will make a few $1000 breaking it down yourself for sure. Strip it and sell the items on Facebook. join a few Nissan groups there and you will have plenty of interest.

The pair of Diffs with an airlocker will command $1500 to $2000 all day on Facebook. another $500 for the chip maybe?

A 100,000km old engine wth a brand new clutch has got to be worth a few 1000 too i reckon?? You might even get the right buyer to take the engine out themselves.

$500 for the lift kit or more depending on the brand. a few 100 for the winch depending on the brand.

rusty_nail might sell you a pump as he will be pulling his engine out soon for an LS Conversion.

Hi mate, I would be happy to sell the IP to you. My motor has a cracked head and have retired the car untill I get all the bits together for an LS conversion. The motor isn't running due to another fault which I haven't bothered diagnosing. I had a brand new injector pump fitted in 2015 as I also rebuilt my motor but it's just a bloody lemon(spent 14k on first rebuild). Happy to send it you way for a couple of bucks if that helps?

Hi Guys, thanks so much for the advice. Much appreciated.

RustyNail - the cars at a diesel mechanic atm (first diagnosis was with RAC but not conclusive) and they are going to confirm diagnosis this Friday. Will keep you posted on whether it’s 100% confirmed the pump etc. Thanks for the offer to purchase yours. I will be in touch post Fridays call.
Cheers - John

Personally I think your pros outweigh your cons, especially if you can get a reasonably priced fuel pump. Lots of $$ tied up there and if you don't want or need a spiffy tractor then why ditch it? Scrap man will give you nothing. If you want it gone wrecking it will pay more then give the shell to the scrap man.
