G'day everyone! We were out driving our 1993 Nissan patrol wagon yesterday and all of a sudden the steering wheel and gear stick started to shake uncontrollably! It lasted for about 30sec or until I slowed down! Any one know what caused this?

Welcome to the forum, where are you from.

If the shake was violent and occured over 60km/h I would suspect worn/flogged out front panhard rod bushes. This is more common on vehicles that have urethane type bushes in the panhard. Have a close look at the bushes, take the panhard off if necessary (it's not a big job) as the wear may not be immedietly obvious at a quick look.

G'day mate - welcome aboard. Great people, information and laughs on here mate, so feel free to join in and make the most of it. Enjoy!!

X2 on the panhard bushes ... or maybe shot steering damper? Like, really stuffed so that you don't have the shakes until you're doing a certain speed and hit a pothole or something that causes the vibration until it settles down again (until the next pothole etc)??
