2002- 2004 gu hunting

Hi all just in this to find out details regarding the 2002 and 2004 gu patrols i have heard about grenade engines. What year models get affected by this?
Is it only in some of them or a general problem for gu's?
Should they be avoided all together or its worth fixing if it blows?

The bad rep is only for the early 3.0 litre engines, any other engine option in the GU is pretty solid.

If you did want a 3.0 litre I would save an extra few $'s and get a Series V (or later) ZD30CRD (2007 onwards)
Having said that, the Series 3 and 4 ZD30Di don't seem to be as bad as the first ones after Nissan did a few tweaks.

Me personally, I wouldn't touch a Series 1 or 2 with a ZD30 but no worries at all if you want a Petrol or TD42 after a thorough inspection

So series 3 you wouldn't be too stressed about? Not sure if i can budget a 2007 so the 2004 series 3 looks affordable and not as fragile?
