plastic trim near stepboard

Anyone here has experience permanently resolving this cosmetic issue... i accidentally stepped on this a few weeks back. Already replaced the clips inside to new ones but unfortunately it seems that it wont lock in place properly ( it will not fall off since there are 2 screws holding it but its quite annoying)

Never seen those before? Not nissan by the looks of it. Maybe the makers of the steps?
