GU Shorty

Hi all just done all the Intro stuff on the other thread and wanted to share a few pics of my GU Shorty I have owned it for a while now, it has just landed in Brisbane as a personal import. It is a 2003 3.0 SWB (known as a GR in UK) Low mileage 45,000 miles (approx 75,000 K's) It started life out in two tone blue and sliver (standard Patrol colours in UK) Fitted with 3” slinky springs and Ridepro Rox shocks Pedders adjustable rear panhard rod. It is sitting on 35's had the diffs re geared 4.66 ARB winch bar with a Goldfish 9500lbs winch and custom sliders. It has been fully resprayed Black.
Huge wish list now that it has arrived in Australia. We don't really have a big Touring overland scene in the UK (small country - too many people- shit weather for camping) Not sure how many others there are here in Oz . Keen to here from any one else someone mentioned there is a white one in Brisbane. Hopefully see you all out there78747787487874978750

The gu shortys were never released in australia for some reason. Wet only ever got the gq. Have you been through all the rigamamorole of getting it regoed yet? You may have issues with the 35s and 3"lift if anyone asks, it's just 2" as thats the max got can go without engineering

Thanks rusty_nail it goes for compliance tomorrow hope to have it on the road by the end of the week. They are actually 315 75 16 so not true 35's but probably still too big. I have bought the original wheels with me so can swap them over if need be to get it through the rego and swap back afterwards. Do you get pulled over lot if running 35's here or has that all blown over ?

The biggest 16 you would be able to go on a gu would be 285 75 16 mate. You would definitely be better off fitting the original wheels for the inspection. When you say compliance do you mean a road worthy inspection with tmr?

Dunno about up there in QLD but here in Vic it's a pretty big risk to run 35s, it's a very easy defect for the cops because it is printed right on your tyre and there is no arguing it. That being said I am now running them as I believe the benefits outweigh the risks.
Awesome looking shorty though, I do love the look of them.

Not sure about TMR it has to get checked for child restraints etc and ensure it meets with the standards for Australian roads I have a company taking care of it for me they deal with vehicle imports of the final stages of getting it Regoed after it has cleared customs / Quarantine etc etc They are aware of the lift tyre sizes etc so will see how it goes. Watch this space as they say

My eyes can't seem to make sense of the shorty GU.. Looks like a neat little rig!
Chuck a couple of pictures up of the inside if you don't mind. Would be interested to see how it looks in a SWB.. I'm assuming the same but smaller..but still.. pictures please haha.

The GU SWB models look great. Well done getting it over here and with the modifications you've done.
The black paint, oversized flares and larger wheels make it look very cool.
Hopefully inspection goes smoothly for you.
