It's a long shot but have you checked the dash light dimmer to make sure you haven't accidently turned it down? And check the tail light bulbs to make sure they are not blown.

What model vehicle are we talking about a GQ?

So the front park lights work but the rear park lights and dash lights don't.

This tells us the switch is ok, now the wiring diagram doesn't show a connector that isolates the front park lights from the rear and dash lights.

So they must join two wires together (this is always done at a connector) I am guessing it's in the connector at the back of the light switch.

I would have a look at the back of the light switch, find the pink with black trace wires (are there 2 going into 1?) and see if both have power in them when the park lights are turned on.

If they do both have power in them you will need to start following the harness along looking for any damage to the harness and checking connectors.

Hope this helps.

edit: the other place that the 2 wires could join is at the connector where the dash light dimmer switch would be, I know you say you haven't got one fitted but there is a good chance the connector is still there.

I have just been having a look at the wiring diagram for the GU and it is the same set up, wire colour is different and it a bit more complex (bypassing of the daytime running lights etc..)

It does show that the front parkers are connected to the switch first, then it runs through a few connectors (bypasses for factory fog lights and such).

See how you go, I will have more time tonight to sit down and study it if you need any help.

Cheers Rodney

No worries, if you cant find the problem there will be a way we can get around it (cheat).

But it is always better to find and fix the problem just it case it is affecting other circuits.

So the DX is the white Gu work ute.

Is that an ex-Telstra or mine vehicle? or from somewhere else that requires the park lights to come on automatically for OHS

yes mate ex telstra with everything that opens and shuts.
that reminds me i diconnected the the auto side of the head lights
because the relay burnt out after the prang , and not fixed it yet ( i forgot about it)
nothing to do with the current problem i think

Hi Paul,
I had problems with my Telstra ute and it was a relay on the auto light circuit.
Somehow it was affecting the tail lights, I had it fixed the same day, so I can't remember
if it was affecting the dash lights or not.

Hey Gav

My batteries keep going flat if I don't drive them for 3-4 days, could this be a part of the auto light circuit? Have you ever had this problem?
Sorry for hijacking the thread

Hi Ross,
Yes, I had that problem. check the dual battery solenoid,
mine was the one ARB use and it was always warm, and then started getting hotter.
Turns out it was knackered and draining the batteries over about 3 to 4 days without being driven.
It cost me two new batteries as I thought they were had it, as they tested that way.
Even the new batteries went flat in the same time.
Costly exercise with new solenoid and two batteries but problem fixed.
Let me know if this is your problem too.

Cheers Gavin.

You can have your thread back now Paul!!! hahaha

Yendor

When you removed the auto relay, did you follow all the wires to where they ran?, to check and see if they have cut and joined into the vehicles original wiring.
If they have done this, you will need to reconnect the wires they have cut.

Yendor

Ok now it gets tricky.

There is a connector shown in the wiring diagram that is after the front park lights but before the dash lights and rear tail lights.

So this fits in with your front park lights working but not the dash or rear tail lights.

Do you have a copy of work shop manual?

Page EL-75 shows the wiring diagram for the tail lights, the connector I would have a look at is E127 / M21.

In the diagram you can find this connector just after the front RHS park light connection and just before the connection for the fog lamp switch.

Page EL-282 will show you where you can locate the connector M21 in the vehicle (RHS kick panel, about middle height of dash).

Page EL-292 will show you the other half of the connector.

Hope this helps.

edit there is another connector shown on page EL-75 (M96 & B102) but I think if the problem was with this connector then the rear tail lights only would not be working.
