Just a reminder to everyone: Mobile phone numbers going public next month!
This is for Australian phone numbers
REMEMBER: Mobile Phone Numbers Go Public next month.
REMINDER: all mobile phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.
YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
Below is a link where you can enter your phone numbers online to put an end to telemarketing calls.
Don't just delete those calls otherwise you will find that you have been signed up for all sorts of extra services that you didn't want or know about. Like special chimes, music etc.
The link below is the link you need to register your mobile number to stop the calls from happening...this is an Australian Government site so it is genuine....

Hi Guys, just to let you all know, this warning is actually a hoax, although the website is very real and can ve trusted. Yhis warning has been circulating for quite a few years, starting in the U.S. then the U.K and I first saw it over here about 6 years ago............. all being circulated via email........ so maybe there's some sort of trojan or tracking cookie attached to the email itself.
Any way, no harm done on here and if you don't want those telemarketing calls, you may want to register your home numbers on that website.............. personally I just pick up the phone, put it on speaker phone, wai for them to say something, then I ask them to hold on one moment, I'll go off and do and do something whilst listening to them going "Helloo Helllooooooo, anyone there" and I'll wait for them to hang up.
Or the other thing I llike to do, is to lead them to believe I'm reallyy interested in wanting what theyre selling but then say NoThanks, right at then end

on a serious note when they are using a Predictive Dialer (I did the IT side for a Call Centre) when you answer keep talking the Dialer doesnt expect to hear constant noise and will drop the call as a answering machine.
Cheers
PS Yes the National Do Not call register is a good way to stop Australian company's from calling you. The only thing to remember they have 30 days from when you register your number to comply and remove your numbers for all there lists.

Even though you register on the DNC register, you may still get calls, especially from overseas call centres or companies such as Tech Optimisers claiming to be acting on behalf of Microsoft. There is an ongoing investigation into this scam and plenty of info on the ACMA website and any calls should be reported by calling 1300 792 958 or by visiting our website at www.donotcall.gov.au.
The more information you are able to provide about the call, the more effectively the matter can be investigated. Information that may be particularly useful includes:
a. the name, company name and contact details of the person that called you;
b. if the call was made by a telemarketer on behalf of another company, the name and contact details of that other company;
c. the matters that the caller wanted to talk to you about; and
d. any other information that you think may be relevant to an investigation of the matter.
Under the Telecommunications (Do Not Call Register) (Telemarketing and Research Calls) Industry Standard 2007, telemarketers are legally required to provide you with items a, b and c above, either at the commencement of the call, or on request.
