G'day all
Anyone out there got clues as to how you can get a reasonably priced spare key in Adelaide ( Or anywhere for that matter)?
The Nissan dealers charge like wounded bulls but I've heard that some locksmiths are far better priced and can code the new one up to your car.
Heading bush again (first time in the GU4 model) and like to carry an emergency key in a waterproof holder out of sight under the body.

A locksmith should be able 2 do it, but not sure on the prices as i don't have that fancy technology on my old GQ, so have had know need 2 inquire.

Also PM NIZZBITS http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/member.php?132-NIZZBITS

He might be able 2 help you out or suggest the best way of getting one.

Cheers

Go into a Locksmith and ask if they do EH heads? If so then they can do you a key coded to your car. As the key comes in two pieces you could tape the blade under the car and keep the transponder in the glove box. Then you don't have a transponder key under the car. This is what we have done.

thanks for that.
I was going to get a blade cut separately but the key 'split' sounds exo.
By the way, just so happens that when I die I hope to get sent back to the peninsular, bloody magic country.
All the best

G'day, just wondering how you went with this as I'm going through the same thing myself. Everywhere I go though I keep getting told to go back to Nissan and its nearly $300 for a key through them. Don't really want to spend that much on a key.
Thanks.

Yup ... I had the same problem but needed a new key for rego (original can be removed from ignition barrel while engine is running).

Yup ... chased everywhere. Everyone told me to go back to Nissan. $300 (OUCH). Then off to the locksmith (recommended by the dealer) who told me they couldn't correctly identify the key cut code from the VIN. Back to Nissan who confirm the VIN and are confused. Back to the locksmith who still doesn't know and tell me they need either the ignition barrel or drivers door barrel to identify the correct key cut code ... but can't promise anything as the VIN key code doesn't exist.

So ... have a CHEAP blank cut to test first (in all locks and ignition). Then have the Nissan key cut and coded. Another $100. I told my lady fiona and it's the first time I've left her speechless.

This is an expensive hobby.

Find a lock smith that does car keys with chips in them & get them to cut a spare key & klone it. I got it done for my daughters GU3 because it only had 1 key when she got it. The top will come away from the blade so you could split it as suggested in another post.

I got a cheap Nissan blank from Ebay UK. Was about $15 delivered. I then took the blank to a local key cutter and he cut the new key, with a bitter knife mind you, I then put my chip in and its all good. Well almost, the butchered new key is a bit rough so I will be getting another blank and going elsewhere.
