View Full Version : Speedo not working & lack of power

Has anyone on here had the speedo stop working on a GU CRD?
Yesterday after some beach and track driving my speedo and odometer stopped working and at the same time it lost power, I am thinking it is going into limp mode because the speedo isn't working.
I have looked on the ultraguage I have connected and that doesn't show speed either but doesn't show any error code.
Have looked at what I assume is the speed sensor on the transfer case and wiring looks intact, tomorrow I will try removing it to test it, hope I am looking at the right thing.

TPC. Check speedo pinion . Takes 5 minutes. 10mm socket . Pull the speedo pinion out and have a look if all is intact.

Other than that I know Cuppa and my mate on a GU had a wiring short somewhere in that circuit.

I saw the title and I thought someone had stolen my car.

Still haven't got around to looking into this, as for the lack of power, I know what will fix mine..

I removed the vehicle speed sensor and it all looks intact as does the wiring.
I connected an AV voltmeter to the sensor and spin the cog and there is no reading so it looks like it has failed as I believe I should see AC volts generated when spinning it.

IIRC the speedo sensor is a hall effect device, you may not see a signal without excitation .. best check out of circuit is test the sensor for continuity, should be almost a short cct.

The sensor on my Patrol is a 2 wire sensor so I dont think it will be a hall effect sensor unless it is relying on the body to get the earth which would be unusual.

Bloody hell Paul, are you spying on me, just fixed it and drove back in after a test drive.

The culprit was this.
Part no 25010VB000 SENSOR ASSY-SPEED METER
Easy to test, just hook up a multimeter on AC volts and turn it by hand and if it works it will show about 2.5v AC.
Cost about $150 from PartSouq.com and delivered in 4 days

Would have been an easy job if it wasn't for busting the head off the bolt and had to go buy some screw extractors.
