heading up the cape very soon and have a question to ask those more in formed then me,,, when my snorkle was fitted i was supplied with a fish bowl as well as the ram in take. up untill yesterday i have had the ram on but thought i would throw on the fish bowel to see if affected the perfomance of the engine. one thing i did notice was the noise the engine made under load sucking in the air through the fish bowel. so the question is which one do i use when i head north??? i know that the bowel will catch more dust but at what cost to engine???
opinions and answers please!!!!

Use the pre-cleaner (fish bowl) in heavy dust conditions. Being that it is only a cyclone pre cleaner and not actually a filter it should not cause any restriction to the air intake, a dirty air filter will be more restrictive.

I use one of these on my snorkel when in dusty conditions ,under $25 and has saved my intake from dust in many a convoy.......

They come oiled, but i only use mine dry, it can be slipped on off/on in seconds.
Easy to clean with just water, and you can just squeeze out the excess and put straight on :smiley_thumbs_up:

Just make sure you get the oil out of it first Scotty (petrol works good) ,then i keep mine in a snap lock bag in the glovebox.
I followed heaps of cars down dusty tracks over the weekend, all at close range , and no visible dust had entered the snorkel head upon removing the pre filter.
Normally i dont take it off untill i clean the car, sometimes this may be a few days, ive never felt a loss in engine performance, even when it looks filthy, can't comment on its effects on fuel economy, mines a 4.5L ,so it gonna be bad even on a tow truck
EDIT: oh yeh, only ever make a ball and squeeze to dry the water out , NEVER wring it out like you would a towel.
Autobarn slacks creek (Brisbane,QLD) had them cheapest, about $22 i think ?
