Aircon Issue

Has anyone had experience with a stuffed aircon?

Dads GQ aircon hasn't worked forever and I decided to get it checked out and repaired.
Auto aircon joint called me and pretty much told me what I expected, it is completely cactus. He asked if I wanted him to stop and just leave it or keep going. Which gives me the impression that it is pretty bad.

Worst case scenario. What can I expect to be paying to fixing/replacing a completely stuffed aircon?

Would it be difficult to source components myself to use to have it fixed?

Do different engines have different aircon set ups?

Hey mate I pretty much replaced everything on the engine bay side and cost around 1 - 1.5k i think from memory. IF it needs all that plus stuff on the cab side guess I'd expect up to 2 grand for a place to get it up & running nicely. Hard to mix & match especially using second hand parts because air con was a option and dealer fitted there are so many different fittings out there and pretty much impossible for different stuff to fit together, plus will need to be gassed by someone. See if he can give a quote for what he reckons it needs.

Parts are easy to source. Just depends on how much you want air con in your Patrol. Dpending on whats "stuffed" will determine how easy it is to fix. I would assume the compressor is stuffed, the evaporator in the cab I would change anyway, purely because of where it is, and just inspect the condenser for damage and then fit it all up, get it leak tested and if all ok, gas it and enjoy. Or just replace the condenser while your at it.
