Anyone got a link or whatever that works (all the newspaper articles are subscriber only ATM) regarding the proposed ban on adding Bars etc.

What is and isn't going to be banned on new vehicles etc?

Heard something on the radio earlier. You will not be able to upgrade the tow limit once the vehicle leaves the factory. The references to accessories is about limiting weight, not a specific ban on them. This is a national thing not just Qld and it has been mentioned before. Not sure that Qld is too on keen it. I guess we will find out more soon.

Yeah thats the one Hodge... the Mail has it locked out for non subscribers tho... bloody Banana Benders... get whipped in Origin and spit the chewey

Brissie boy may be right and someone has lost the plot with GCM upgrades but it doesn't make sense as that has been in the media for yoinks now.

The national regs are that you can no longer upgrade GCM with suspension changes... GVM yes, GCM prev Yes but now No and that is all States and Terrys so dunno what they mean by NSW and Vic cars being OK.

The total ban is QLD only at this stage but you can bet a 1/2 a can of flat XXXX it will get into other states as well.

What I am interested in is how they will 'police' it ????
For example a Manuf Bar and Racks as option will be OK but how about an ARB Bar and Thule Racks fitted by Dealer prior to rego...
or...
will the Dealer have to weigh and blue plate the vehicle after the mods prior to rego
or...
Will they treat the Vehicle as pre-rego being as it comes off the boat?
or...
what if you buy interstate and upgrade it out then move to QLD and transfer to Qld rego
aaand...
what about existing rego 4X's?...
did their resale just go thru the roof?
what if the vehicle changes hands

Total pack of BS IMHO sama sama lowering the weight checking stations down to 4.5 tonne GCM which is pretty much Car and any large Van.

Aaaaand I would be selling my shares in Long ranger, ARB, indeed any aftermarket manuf et al asap

Good article by Mr4x4

https://mr4x4.com.au/queensland-towing-laws-changing/

"It appears at this stage, that the entire article published by the Courier Mail is nothing more than scare mongering and ‘click-bait’; laying all the blame on the current governement in Queensland. Indeed there have already been press releases stating as such (http://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2018/8/21/statement-on-the-use-of-trailers-in-queensland), specifically from the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey, this morning which states:

“The Palaszczuk Government has made no changes to trailer towing rules in Queensland. These trailer towing rule changes are set by the Federal Government. The federal changes will not come into effect next month in Queensland. I will be raising all issues presented to me by stakeholders with my federal colleagues. Safety is of course our highest priority, but the Palaszczuk Government will absolutely reject any changes that unnecessarily disadvantage Queensland drivers or our wider state economy.”

I read a few articles this morning and couldn't believe that they were dribbling on about accessories when actually the only chamge that i understand is that you can no longer mod plate a GVM upgrade post 1st rego. You can do all the mods but cant mod plate it. If you mod plate it in another state your good to go though.

It is true that if you add a heap of accessories your likely going to be heavy....... dont make it about being heavy, make it about not being able to certify an Engineered design GVM upgrade on the 3rd day of registration but that same modification is legal predelivery. I read a comment also that dealers did not want to sell GVM upgrades predelivery as thwre where warranty issues.

Dribble.
