I was about to do the usual thing and extend the transmission breathers to the top of the firewall. However after checking out the existing vents for the front three, I just wonder if it is much of an advantage to do these. Mine are already 1 metre above ground and fairly well protected (well up inside the left front wheel cavity area) and relocating would only gain a few inches. Opinions?
The rear diff is a different matter and that one could definitely do with relocating.
Also, if it is worthwhile relocating, why replace the fittings on top of the gearbox, front diff, transfer case? It is not an easy task to replace the existing fittings. There is a very convenient place to break into the existing tubes where there is a rubber hose linking two sections of metal pipe in the engine bay just behind the shocky hump which would only require a short run of hose to get up the firewall.76109It is not an easy task to replace the existing fittings so why do it? Is there some useful difference between the original and the replacement (except for the connection for the 1/4 inch polyurethane hose all the kits seem to use)?

I've extended all the breathers and added a cheap filter facing downwards so that there is bugger all chance of water getting into them. A lot of kits are mounted with the buds facing upwards which IMHO defeats their purpose.

Yep. I had intended doing something similar - if I do extend.
BUT...this lowers the breather hole below the maximum possible - to about the same as the factory fitted level. So why bother? Trying to figure out if it actually beneficial to extend/relocate the front breathers, and why.

I haven't bothered doing the transfer and transmission breather because they are already mounted in a good spot from factory.

Thanks mudski, that was my thoughts as well. I will stick with these.

So, is there anything special about the kit supplied fittings that replace the originals on the diffs/gearboxes?

No, should all just screw in and then run the hoses up into the engine bay.
