Hey I was just going to post about my 3" lift kit I installed last weekend but instead i find im having to post about a clutch that's developed some problems.
Symptoms are driving along in any gear but lets say 4th or 5th for this example cruising at 100 then accelerating suddenly like trying to overtake the revs will jump up about 800rpm but with no apparent increase in speed then without altering the accelerator pedal the revs drop and the the speed will rise.
Found this and explains exactly whats happening http://www.ehow.com/video_4977122_diagnose-slipping-clutch-car.html

Now my question is because im a tight arse and will be doing the job myself

1. Which clutch kit should i get? noting that i just spent all my money on the before mentioned lift kit :furious:
I was looking at This 4 Terrain kit
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110685492879&ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT
Or This Exedy Safari Tuff Clutch kit
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290563979401&ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT

2. Will i need to get the fly wheel machined? (the clutch still feels smooth and doesn't chatter) if so where?

3. I have read somewhere that its sometimes easier to take the engine out other than dropping the box out? I know doing it at home is a major pain but why pay someone else when im more than capable of doing it and as i said funds are tight ATM

Cheers
Darren

On second thoughts just rang a few mechanics around here today all said the same thing that box is damn heavy like over 200kg (not like the old cars that i used to fix with the box resting on your chest and lift LOL) So i might buy the clutch and get someone else to do it.
Was quoted $1200 with probably some acme clutch
or
$600 with my supplied clutch
Just got to chose which one at the moment im leaning towards the safari tuff clutch because i haven't found anything bad about them on the net

Hi Darren
I just want to share this with you. What I did to my patrol is, I cut the upper part of where the radiator are bolted on. This way, I can easily take out the engine together with the gearbox (less the 2 hours or so with a help from two of my friends). I used two pieces of ally angle bars and bolted them to each side to reattach the part. But of course you have to consider the amount of work involved to take out the engine or together with the gearbox just to replace the clutch. Draining off the coolant, degassing the a/c etc.. To me, its worth all the troubles as I had be able to clean inspect the engine bay for rust or else. Many things can be found that need attention after so many miles thrashing and bashing the patrol too.

Gosh.. I overlooked it. Don't know if it will work on a GU though.
