Hi everyone,
I have a 2010 ZD30 DDTi common rail. 150,000 km, fully synthetic 5W40 oil since 40,000. I have installed a Provent 200 catch can. After only 1,700 km there is considerable oil saturation of the element. Is this normal, or is the engine showing sign of too much blow by ? Do these things still breath properly when the element is completely saturated ? I have also heard of a restrictor in the breather hose on some models, any info about that, what it does, what does it look like ? Is it compensating for another Nissan design failure ? Seems odd to put a ' restrictor ' in a breather hose.

My Patrol has done about 130,000 and I added a Provent about 2000km ago. Checked it regularly and very clean, I was actually starting to wonder if it was blocked or something (it’s not).
Actually looks dirtier in the picture than it is.

Thanks for the images Jack. Your element looks way cleaner at 2000 km than mine at 1700 km. My element actually gets oil pooling on the top plastic flange ( where the 'o' ring is )You can just see that in my photo. Yours looks 'dry' on top ? Is that the case ? Perhaps l have too much blow by ? Can you tell what type of engine oil you use ? Maybe that makes a difference. Cheers

Hi Billy, top is not dry but has a very light film on it. When I look into the inlet tube of the catch can I can see a little oil pooled in there but minimal.
Currently using Penrite HPR DIESEL 10 10W-40 (Semi Syn.).
