Wrote this after a few wines a year or two ago. Seems to be that time of year again and thought some might relate.

Desert winter nights

A winter moon, a chilling breeze, and only the sounds of the bush.
Shadows dance with the whispering sounds of time’s eternal push.
The stars they rise and turn across the cool desert tracks tonight.
Earthly colours battle with sand and throw uncertain light.

The dingo howls and brings a shiver to those who yet are awake.
Red-hot coals and a wisp of smoke ensures comfort from a traveler’s plate.
The curlew’s call holds many in thrall as the darkening dunes dream of rain.
Time folds in and one’s ghosts briefly reign dancing those shadows again.

The silence now deafens, the dew’s turned to frost, and the fire has died to a glow.
Swags are unrolled and boots quickly tossed and the traveler’s head lies down low.
The desert moon and bright star-lit night drag eyes to the heavens above.
A final shiver and a roll of the hood brings dreams of that we most love.

Top stuff. It would be good to post it here, so it doesn't disappear. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?15708-Lets-hear-some-Aussie-Bush-Poetry&highlight=aussie+poetry
