Hey all,
I've finally started doing my turbo kit at home today.
I've got a std HT18 GU 4.2 turbo and a safari low mount manifold.
My first disappointing finding was that the exhaust manifold stud closest to the firewall was snapped and being so close the firewall, the motor would have to be pulled out in order to drill and tap a new thread. I also snapped one right up the front of the manifold but had enough access to drill and use an easy-out to get the snapped section out.
When i finally got the manifol and turbo mounted, the really disappointing finding was that the std dump pipe which cam with the turbo when i bought it hits against some weird thing sticking out of the block which means i'm going to have to get another dump pipe made unless I can somehow spin the exhaust housing 45 degrees around????

The other question i have is... Does anyone know which lines do what?
obviously, the big pipe coming out the bottom is the oil return line.
There's one line on top of the turbo (in the middle) which I'm assuming is the oil feedline??
There's also one other hole which uses the same type of plate fitting (hole in the middle with 1 bolt either side) on the under side or side of the middle section of the turbo??
Lastly, there's a big threaded hole (look's like it might be 1/2" BSP thread size in the middle section of turbo which i don't know what it's for??
I guess i have a watercooled ht18 turbo but how do you work out where water in and out are and which one is oil in??
Any help greatly appreciated
thanks,
Bexi

Do you have any photos of it so we can see exactly what you're talking about? Might help some people answer your question better.

it was a problem with using the safari manifold ... it has a strange angled flange pointing the turbo in towards the block.
I ended up just getting a custom dump pipe

Hi mate, take some photos and show us so we can 100% confirm but also check this thread out for my explanation of lines = http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?4973-Fitting-a-genuine-Nissan-turbo-to-a-N-A-TD42

Sounds like you have a water and oil cooled turbo...

Here is my turbo below standard HT-18. Should be same set up as yours but show some photos to us anyway.

Plate with two bolts is your oil feed.
The banjo bolt just below that in the photo is the water feed.

Hole on bottom of turbo is your oil drain and the hole at the back of the turbo (closest to block) is your water drain.

Check out the DIY thread in the link above and that should answer a lot questions but feel free to ask anything else as I just recently did mine.
