Just wondering is there a difference in prices for a new cylinder head for a 99 2.8lt patrol. Is the quality better as the price goes up. Im trying to work out if the mechanic has taken me for a ride.

Our kid has a GU 2.8 that cracked a head. It cost $4000.00 to have a new head fitted inc timing belt

To me thats abit too much. But Im not a mechanic and dont really know whats involved and the hours required for the job. A VRS alone would not be $500. Just ring SMS Diesel or Engines Australia and ask for a price.
did they give you a full breakdown on the invoice?

Nope just says cylinder head (exchange), gasket, head bolts vrs. $2500. Timing was done 2 yr ago but im assuming coz its a new head and the old one was warped the timing needed replacing. Hubby tried to question the mechanic and got all defensive. We were only charged 22hrs labour and he had it for 2 mths
