Plastic radiator Protector GU 2 & Bash Plates

Hi All,

I've just taken off the steel Bash plate that attaches to my Bull bar on The GU 2. It connects to a flimsy plastic moulding ( Radiator protector) which in turn connects to another plastic piece that is supposed to guard the steering linkages.

I think they are really only good for stopping long grass and a bit of mud. I managed to tear a bit off the forward Radiator protector where it has one of the screws. Part No 62821VB000 Nissan quoted $183 and said most people would fit a steel piece aftermarket and they don't stock them. Mine is fixable if it comes down to wasting $183 on a genuine one.

I have just purchased the bash plate steering protector and will toss the plastic one but I cant see anywhere any one selling an aftermarket replacement plastic, aluminium or steel protector for the radiator plastic that I have torn.

This whole exercise began because I will be fitting a winch. I may get a fabricator to bend one up from alum or stainless

G’day Phil mate, only my opinion but I do believe we are better off spending our coin on upgrading much stronger all rods/arms etc..
Them fancy shields for sale seem to do more fold up damage I hear :-(

That could be a problem as well I guess just a matter of avoiding those big buundys. Thanks for your reply

Im fitting a Brown Davis bash plate and have heard no bag reports about,
they are braced with pipe. Most others were just folded 5mm flat plate.
As with the radiator you need that 50mm strip on the base of it, my opinion only'

The angled plastic item isn't there to protect any steering components. It's to create a lower pressure in the engine bay to promote better airflow through the radiator.

If you make that item too strong in the hope it might protect something, you'll be making yourself a good sand scoop for when you need to reverse out of a beach bog..

Spot on! Those plates are a waste. No matter how good they say it is. Better of spending the coin on a decent drag link and tie rod. Superior engineering do a comp spec rod. I have both and are guaranteed for life against bending

JFF, There is (Going towards the car from the front towards the back) the 1st plate metal, 2nd plate plastic with air holes which I think you must be referring to to create a lower pressure in the engine bay to promote better airflow through the radiator and the 3rd plastic is what you are calling the reverse sand scoop which I have replaced with an after market metal piece just to the front of the linkages

I agree now that it could become a sand scoop if I keel haul the car backwards without first preparation and a bit of recovery trax. I made up the 2nd part in line with some folded aluminium and drilled holes the same as the original ( It came up looking pretty good) plastic so air flow hopefully should be the same to the radiator. I wonder whether with the winch fitted and spotlghts on the front bbar how much effect they actually have in reducing air flow to the radiator
