OK, installed the clock and presto, lights up with ignition on the first, second and third time, then couple of days later, nothing. Car on and off, headlights on off, hit 'reset button' 5 sec, 10 secs, nothing, then next day, clock is on with ignition??? Checked and swapped out fuse in case there was some corrosion, or a repeat of a recent issue with poorly seated fuses that stopped the car. Connector is 'home' as there is a distinct 'click' made when the two parts of the plug assy are fitted.

Any ideas guys?

Post closed for now. The wrecker in QLD has kindly refunded my money, so still looking for a dash clock.

Super common issue with the GQ clocks. Caused by dry solder joints. Have a google of it and there are plenty of people who have repaired them.
Haven't had an issue with mine in both of my GQ's.

I have bought a couple of 40mm analogue cheapie clocks off ebay and will see if I can fix this one in the meantime, no hurry.

Get a bit tiresome having to drive all the way out there just to read the time. Bought a couple of different types and sizes/style to see if any last longer than a week before crapping out. If VDO or similar made a clock in say 40mm or 44mm then it would slot straight into the hole and last a while, unfortunately can only find a 52mm variant and I am not that desperate to take a hole saw to the dash just yet.
