It's possible I may have asked this before, but if so cannot recall what I was told.
This is a question to those familiar with the use of snatch straps, I'm after real world answers rather than theoretical ones.
We have been carrying two straps... an 8 tonne & a 12 tonne one. Both as yet unused.
Vehicle alone weighs 3.9t full loaded. Vehicle plus Tvan - around 5t fully loaded.
My thinking had been to use the 8t strap for vehicle only, & the 12t if both vehicle & Tvan together ever need to be snatched.
Now in further weight reduction mode.
Which strap should I leave at home?

The 12T.
I would never use a Snatchy on a Vehicle Trailer Combo.
If it was the trailer that was mired/stuck and you load up the snatchy to 8 ton (or even worse 12T) connected to a vehicle recovery point then potentially that is the force being applied to the tow hitch.
Same applies if teh vehicle is stuck and you try and snatch off the Trailer

Yep - what ET said. If you are stuck with a trailer - unhitch the trailer - recover the vehicle or the trailer - whichever is in the easiest to get at position - recover the other one - hook them back up and on your way.
The strap should be thought of as the "fuse" in the recovery process. If anything does break it is best to be the strap - not bits ripped off the vehicle.

X3 Cuppa , have recovered the pop top before after unhitching ( winch wouldn't work) but used tow strap not the bungy cord strap , personally I reckon snatch straps are dangerous .

Yep, I've taken on board 'recover them separately' should I be silly/unlucky enough to get both bogged. I wouldn't use a snatch strap for the Tvan alone (don't wish to wear it). I have a winch, plus a second 30 metre winch rope which I could use to 'tow' it out if the winch didn't want to play.
I'll leave the 12t strap at home.
Thanks folks.
