g/day all my Dad gave me his 1997 gq 2.8 td patrol and i want to put a 3 inch straight through exhaust on it.
now this has caused i bit of an argument because his so called mate reckons i will blow the motor because i will need to get the computer reprogrammed
i tried to tell my dad it does not have a computer
am i correct or is my Dads mate correct

He is right, there is an ECU. But he is wrong cos you will do no harm by changing the exhaust.

a 3inch exhaust will not ruin the ECU.

It should in fact lower EGT and get abit more power.

i have already blanked off the egr
if i was to get it tuned for a little bit more power and fuel economy after i do the exhaust i will need to get the ecu reprogrammed will i

Winnie, where is the ECU on a 97 GQ 2.8TD? Mine didn't have one I am sure, only the glowplug timer. Everything is mechanical on that motor. They went electronic on the GU i believe.

Agree with PeeBee, GQ doesn't have a CPU.
