Rear Wheel Carrier Studs

Hey guys,

Today we replaced the wheels on the GU. I organised the spacer but the problem we found was that the OEM 21mm stud was a tight squeeze in the holes of the new rims. The wheels came with replacement 19mm nuts for the wheels, but not for the spare.

My questions are

1) What are the specs of the OEM stud - i researched here and saw M10 - is that all i need to know?
2) Has anyone had to replace this part and has a provider who can sell me a stud with a 19mm head?

Any thoughts guys? I've got them relatively tight now using a socket the tyre shop had, but if i get flat i'm in trouble as i don't have a a socket that is that thin in overall diameter in any of my sets (if i cant get a solution before the weekend i'm going to grind one down!!!)

Kal, I think the studs are M12 x 1.25P. You could check this with nissan spare parts I reckon. Have you got a photo of the new rims? I am a bit confused about the terms or config you have - Does the GU have a wheel nut with a stud instead of a stud sticking out from the disk and fixed with a nut? My GQ has studs and nuts,

Just buy some nuts from the tyre shop to suit the rims/ the same as the nuts supplied. 19mm. They'd have heaps of them. Well my local shop had a box full of them so i'd assume any tyre shop would.

sorry mate - the wheels around the car have studs off the hub with a nut to secure the wheel. The spare carrier has a stud into the carrier

well that'd make sense :-) - the guys who did the install obviously didn't have an option. Will check an auto parts store today

Yeah of course they do. Sorry. I forgot about that. Not sure what rims you have, but I have aftermarket alloys using 19mm hex nuts and the rear carrier nuts still fit in mine fine. Its close, but the socket still gets in...

Yeh - so the wheels on the hubs we swapped to a 19mm hex head nut into the hub studs - plenty of clearance.

But as you said, the the ones into the spare carrier are still a 21 hex head. I ended up getting a socket designed for tapware, so a plumbers bit of kit which is much narrower and thin - worked really well for two of them which are very tight now - but the third was still a challenge as it seems like the head of the stud was a little offset in the hole of the wheel.

I have a 1/2inch drive deep wheel nut socket I use and theres clearance...

It is M10 x 1.25p. I have the same problem after changing a new set of tyre. TOYO open country R/T tyre with 285 70r 17
