Hi there,
While changing the engine oil the other day I found a little bit of fuel on the front diff (driver's side, on the pumpkin). After a bit more of a look around, it looks like it may be coming from the injector pump. Does anyone have any advice on likely causes? Is it most likely the seals in the pump, or am I looking at a rebuild? Or am I completely off, and could it be coming from something else?
Regards,
Christian.

Had this happen to me too.
It was the top cover sealing ring.
I had mine replaced without removing pump..cost around $200.
It hasnt leeked again that was 2 years ago

Yep clean the pump, degrease it and inspect where it's leaking from.
Fingers firmly crossed it's the the top seal as you can replace it without taking the pump off, otherwise pump out.

Mine was diagnosed using compressed air to remove any built up diesel on top of the pump and watching for it to reappear there are three "O" rings in the top, one is a big sucker that's shaped , one on the throttle shaft and one on the load screw.
These O rings are available from patrolapart for around $30 but fitting them is a pain and a lot can go wrong there is a thread on here somewhere from when I did mine so if your handy with a spanner check it out or get a pro to do it .
The throttle shaft O ring can wear with the shaft to complicate things , mine was worn but the new O ring has helped , the cause of my leak was an improperly fitted large O ring under the top plate (was pinched) .

Thanks for the help guys. I'll give her a clean tomorrow and watch for the source of the leak. Is it enough to let her idle for a while? Or is it better to go for a drive and put some load on the pump?

Christian.

Just idling should be fine , it may be something simple like a banjo bolt copper washer but don't think anyone's that lucky .

Photos of the two seals I replaced the third wasn't included in my kit .

Finding the exact spot it's leaking was difficult in itself and I had several mechanics pick several different areas but the Mechanic at Coober pedy used compressed air to show it was leaking from the throttle shaft and the big shaped O ring .

Looks like im heading down the same road with diesel on the front diff. ,,, Nothing to be seen from the top of pump ,looks to be on the block side, high on the pump.

I've now had my pump replaced with a boost compensated one but replacing the O rings did stop the leak , the hardest part of doing it yourself I reckon is getting the bloody slotted screws undone because you need an impact driver and the intake manifold is in the way .

Give it astray with carbi or brake cleaner then blow it off
. Then a bit of powder .. then look

I had the same leak on mine. It was coming from the diamond shaped plate cover. It's very hard to get your hands in there as it's cluttered so I took it to mechanics. Turned out to be a simple O-ring replacement that cost $50.

Geez that's cheap if they replaced it for that .

Yeah I was pretty relieved, was thinking it might be a $2000+ pump reco.
