ps .. i was only kiddin.. its normal.. changed it recently and nothing on the plug. its just a bit strange that it behaves normally when turning the ignition off and on whilst driving... surely its electrical as a mechanical problem would persist?

The purpose of EGR had mostly been explained in the first page of the thread but your information about urea injection was new, and interesting. I've read a bit about urea injection on American engine websites, is it being used in Australia yet?

Quick forum tip for ya, posts like this make a bit more sense if you click on "reply with quote" so people can see what post you are replying to (like I did here). It's especially useful on fast moving threads like general banter and night shift.

egr.. hot gasses back into the combustion chamber reduces nox but increases particulates into the atmosphere. egr has only a few years to go before it wont make eu emmission levels............... dead duck......... scr .. injecting urea into the exhaust system to totally eliminate nox is only prehibited by the percentage of urea injected. also so far the price of urea pays for itself per km as it keeps the exhaust system clean and the engine working at full potential.

basically you can make the biggest maddest 16 carbie 8 turbo engine you could imagine with 64 chambers and all you have to do is inject urea into the exhaust.... no emmissions
